DD used a wetsuit at the weekend, it is probably one size too big (room to grow & she's growing each week). She complained of rubbing around the "nether" regions, which she also gets if she wears swim shorts. Apart from treating the rubbing with Talc/Sudocrem, is there a solution to prevent this in the first place? Should she wear something underneath?
Talc cakes up in creases and can cause dermititis. Suedocreame is slimey....How about the soft stretchy long legged shorts type things that footballers and rugby players wear? My son has them for rugby and they're very soft and prevent chafing. Or unpadded cycle shorts?
A wetsuit that is too big does not work, they have to fit close to your body to trap a layer of water which is then heated by your body.
If the suit is loose it just fills with cold water and will rub the skin as it moves which is probably why she is getting an irritation.
You can wear a rash vest under the suit but this only helps the top half.
We have been changing our girls suits every year and trade in the old suits for a new one.I have been using a wetsuit for many years with water skiing, jet skiing and now body boarding on holiday and have always made sure they fit good to be effective
Slightly off topic, I'm a wetsuit wearer, male, and I have been unable to find a suit that zips at the front. Sometimes, I just want to unzip the front, and not have to take it off. (that's where being a male is easier than being a female) ! Also I use mine for kayaking, and it can get a bit hot inside, so if the zip were in the front, I could at least zip it down to let some fresh air in. Are all the new suits back ziped, or am I just looking in the wrong places.
Cheers Bob
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
You should wear shorts or pants and a rash vest underneath your wetsuit. Not only does this make is hygenic it also prevents rash's.
A wetsuit that is too big does not work. A wetsuit works by trapping water in the suit which is then warmed up by the body. someone who is skinny and prone to the cold should also wear a spray top. This is only good for sports where you are out the water, ie not surfing etc.
We live up North and we are going to Cornwall this summer. Do we buy wetsuits down there, or will it work out cheaper to get them before we go? Also my son is very thin, do I get a suite for his age or chest size?

Bob, I haven't seen a wetsuit that zips at the front for years and years! Wear a rash vest and just unzip it and roll it down!!

Thanks Pam & Co
buy them down there, loads cheaper and more choice
unless you can pick up a second hand one on ebay
go by your sons measurements, and get him to try a few on

The place i use for all my surfing gear is Anns cottage surf shop, i have seen zip up at the front wet suits on their site, i always wear a rash zest under my wet suit whether its winter or summer, it will stop it rubbing.
Have seen wesuits for £14.97 for age 12 to 14 and £13.49 for age 8 to 10 plus £2.99 postage. Does anyone know if this is a good price for kids wetsuits or are they cheeper in Cornwall.
I got my kids two very good 2nd hand shortie wetsuits for about £6 each including postage from Ebay... used Gixen to bag them at the last minute and waited for the bargains. The only thing is that the people selling them described them as being for different ages, but in fact they are more or less the same size in terms of body length - although the brand DD has is much skinnier than the one DS used - so different brands will obviously fit better.
Sons is big on him, but he was plenty warm enough in it... so I wouldn't say too big doesn't work, it just doesn't work as well... but obviously if its chafing then that is a problem.

Thanks for all your advice. It would seem that being too big is the problem and will look into finding another. More expense
Well yes, but when the 'new' one is too small this one should fit - so its not wasted?
