We are long-time (if intermittent) campers and my wife has come accross a fancy 'no batteries' torch: the EverLight. Seems that if you shake it up and down you charge it up, and it shines for the duraction of the charge (45 seconds gives 5 - 8 minutes of light).
It's expensive (£20) but should mean never having to buy batteries, but even better, not finding out you should have at 2am in the morning when you need a torch.
Has anyone any experience of this torch? Or does it belong in the 'worst buy' category?
Remember seeing these at a motorcarvan shop stall, I am not sure they were any where near £20, I think they were a fiver or less. I had a look & thought about buying one but they didn't look very well made. If they had been £20 I wouldn't have even bothered looking at them.
From what they seemed to be you would get plenty of excercise if you only get 5 - 8 mins for 45 secs shaking. Rechargable batteries are pretty cheap or even the solar torches are less than £20.

hey try this one its cheaper & gives 30 mins for a 60 second wind!
We bought two of those battery-free torches on ebay for about a fiver each. They were called Farraday torches or similar. No doubt Steely will tell you for certain when he reads this. The kids loved them as they could use them as much as they wanted without fear of them running out of batteries. One word of advice though...dont attempt to take them apart..Sam did and his hasnt worked again since!

Well, that's us decided: we'll go for the ebay option for a fiver & see how it works. Thanks all for the ideas - I never thought there could be so many options for a torch!. (and I can only just contain myself from very bad puns about shining lights on subjects....).
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
