Tried baking a cake in the New Forest, after the main meal. Added a couple of heat beads and all appeared fine.
What I didn't take into account was that it was dusk by this time, so wasn't outside to check on it as much. If I had been, I would have noticed it exploding through the holes in the lid
I had the roasting rack on top of the normal non stock plate (the one with holes in), but as I made the cake in a loaf tin, it was too high as it cooked...hence the mushrooms
It was also burnt, so the whole cake smelt of smoke
Having said all that,I will definitely try again soon
I have made a date & walnut cake after making a lovely lamb casserole and it was lovely and did not taste lamby or smokey. Had it with custard as a warm pudding. Also last week made lemonade scones which were also good, although i did not have the baking powder (who takes bp camping with them!) but used self raising flour which seemed to work well. If anyone wants the recipes I will be happy to email or post them.
I cooked the cake in a cake tin on the roasting rack on top of the grill plate. I also lined the tin with baking paper. The scones were just cooked straight on the grill plate and turned after 5 mins. We used heat beads for the cake and a cobblestone for the scones and both were still hot enough and did not need any extra adding after cooking the main meal.

Fforest Fields - August 2011
We baked a sponge cake on our cobb after the main meal a few years ago, I took a cake tin and packet mix and it tasted really good but didn't rise like it does at home but that could have been because we didn't add any extra heat beads.
