I got a Safari Chef HP as I do not like the idea of lugging a 5kg gas bottle in the car and to connect the hose etc...
It works very well for frying on the flat plate (have not tried using the reverse side yet), stir fry using the cover as a wok. Boiling is fine when tested with a small camping kettle that is less than 1L in capacity.
As a BBQ, I find it is not as hot as a charcoal BBQ, so I took my Weber Go Anywhere grill with me for BBQs.
Perhaps I should have turned the gas supply to the full, and I shall give the BBQ one more try.
The HP carrier has space for 2 x 450/500g of gas and it is a very neat package.

We've only tried the self-sealing canisters and they are ideal for picnic-mode cooking.
This month we relied on the Cadac Safari Chef alone for a week under canvas in Cornwall. Jambalaya (domed lid), fajitas (flat plate) and cooked breakfasts (lined griddle) all came out perfectly. Photo evidence attached of portability for cooking on the beach - visiting Lantic Bay is a good hike.
Over priced, poorly made Chinese tat. Fall to bits in a couple of years. Razor sharp steel pressings, enamel that flakes off in the food & a burner too weak to boil water. Get a gas stove.

Do I take it that you have had a bad experience with a Cadac? I have a Safari Chef. I bought it ages ago. I will be trying it out properly this July. I have had it connected to a gas bottle and tried boiling some water in my kettle and it was fine. The rest of the cooking I shall have to see. I am using it instead of my double burner on a stand which has never let me down so why I changed I don't know. Hope I'm not disappointed.

Like it or lump it, it is hard to find much that is not made in Mainland China nowadays.
I too was wary about its build quality, however, my Safari Chef HP is fine apart from an uneven finish in the dome/wok.

We like our Safari Chef, as mentioned above we too already carry a gas bottle so not much trouble to disconnect it and use it on the cadac outside. I like the fact that its quite versatile without taking up too much room in the car.

I think that it is South African not Chinese unless any knows different. Also it is probably the first bad comment I have ever seen regarding a Cadac Product.
We found that the small gas cannisters ( self sealing type) worked out really expensive because we could never get all the gas out, once it was about half empty the pressure dropped so you could not get a good flame, ended up throwing loads of half empty cannisters. we had tried lots of different makes and nothing made a difference.
If I had a choice I would go for the bottled gas.
We've since upgraded to a Cadac carri chef and find that the larger gas bottle does not take up that much space and it gives us so much more cooking space.
We've used ours now a few times. It's the bottle type and we love it. With the flat plate or griddle it cooks great. I took ages to decide whether or not to get the canister type but I'm glad now we got the bottle type.
Apparently, they're bringing out a regulator that fits on screw in canisters anyway if that helps....
We have a cf deluxe and now that we have our caravan it is one of the pieces of kit we could not do without. We run ours off campingaz 907's although I will soon swap ov er to Calor propane. We have had our kit for 3 years now amd its as good as when we bought it in fact we have now got rid of our double burner and just use the Cadac and a good suotcase burner. Can't fault the Cadac at all

I read other reports and was pursuaded this way. Used it at the weekend to cook bacon and then the bbq in the evening, then was used again for breakfast the next morning.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
