I've seen a single burner and double burner version of this spirit cooker. Never had any experience of spirit burners but sick of lugging around Gaz bottles (they take up so much room)
Anyone had any experience of these - good or bad How do they compare to using gas?
In general, spirit burners (Meths) are slow cookers, easily affected by wind/breeze and not as powerful as a gas, paraffin or petrol burning stove.
The exception to this are the Trangia and similar designed spirit burners, (I don't include the Swedish Ex Army, oval shaped jobbies in this).
Trangias come complete with a wind shield and pot & pan set, and are possibly the most robust, simple and easy to use camping stove available. In real terms they can be as quick as a gas or petrol stove for a simple brew up and even offer decent, though fiddly flame control.
I have a 10-piece Outwell Stainless Steel cook set with a meth burner which is similar in design as Trangia cook sets. I bought a Trangia meth burner with an adjustible flame lid and it fits perfectly in the Outwell set.
Have you considered a Cadac Safari Chef HP version that uses 500g gas cartridges? I got one of these and it is brilliant, except for the BBQ which I find not quite hot enough when compared with charcoal, however, that could just be my fault for not turning the gas right up.
