We have just returned from 2 wks in Paignton & were surprised that there seemed to be a lack of camping shops. The only one we found was 'Outdoor Experience' in Ashburton, which we found quite expensive.  Considering the amount of people camping down there this was quite a surprise.

Does anbody else know of any or did we just not look in the right places? 

We found exactly the same thing! We were in Sidmouth and the campsite owner said the nearest one was in Dorset.

Wouldnt it be a really good idea for campsites to start opening their own camping shops on site? They would make a fortune if they sold spares, mallets, even waterproofs or tents!

We had the same problem in the South Hams and found that the only place where we might pick up an emergency item was Jewsons at Kingsbridge.

Hi calpyline, hope you dont mind me being nosey but which site did you stay at in Sidmouth?

the reason I ask is that we are going there the week after next and are booked in to Oakdown touring Park

We visited a great place called Otterton.There was a crystal clear river FILLED with plump trout which we ( me,Steely  and two kids) paddled along with our fishing nets.It was a great day out.At one point in the river there were some horses swimming accross!I would recommend it.

just hope the weather does not turn too nasty for us, or next year we will be getting a Caravan!

We returned from paignton a couple of weeks ago, We had the same problem looking for camping shops as we needed gas for our lights. We found a Millets Outdoors In Paignton town......................

There are a few camping shops in Devon here

I'm glad it wasn't only us then. They could do with a Towsure down there.
