I used a newly bought Outwell windbreak a couple of weeks ago and after the 1st site it was unfortunately redundant after the spikes were lost from the poles in the grass when taking it down. They completely disappeared even though I roughly knew where the posts had been. Most of the spikes were loose. It was very good up to then!!
Went to see if you could get spares at a very well stocked camp shop near site we were on and the answer was no this is not something that is regarded as a spares you can buy.
It's going back next week. Is this a problem anybody else has had?
Hi Yorkkie,
thats quite unusual,we have had ours for four years and never had any problems at all.
Did they come loose out of the poles or did the part that sticks in the ground break off

Hi Sue
The spikes wee "sucked" out of the poles and did not break off. When I checked the others ones half were loose but some were firm. They just needed a good slug of glue to secure but could not get the spares to repair as apart from this it seemed very good.
Yorkkie,
I had a similar experience, but managed to retrieve the spikes from the ground.
Try getting hold of a few thick nails and use them as replacements, just file off the pointed end so that you don't damage the bag or have an unfortunate accident.
We have just come back from 2 weeks in the vendee. Not had a windbreak before and on it's first day up we had a mildly windy day and two of the poles lost the spikes at the bottom. We found one, so turned the other pole upside down, but then lost this too. Not sure that this product works, the spikes are not long enough or strong enough. The idea is good but.....
This IS a good product - and the spike issue is one I know is a flaw - but if your aware of it then its easy to avoid - and yes they should be better put together - but im sure with a little imagination - you can sort it !!
One question I have - is - at £40 this product should be perfect - so is the £70 "pollycotton" version using the same poles ??? IF so that really does raise a question !
Not sure, how, if the product works, that you lose the spikes !! As then the windbreak became floppy and impossible to retrieve without spares. It is more of a privacy screen rather than a windbreak because the wind did break it!!
Others were using good old fashioned windbreaks with wooden poles and they remained firmly in situ, so I think that is a road to explore
I would take it back - we have never had any trouble with ours - I would say it is a manufacturing defect. The spikes are designed to go into the ground so if they pull out then itis faulty
I bought one a few years back and it was very effective at keeping wind off my stove etc but my spikes got lost too ! In fact , i thought i was going mad and started wondering if the spikes had been there in the first place !!
I've not used it since as it's a pain to set up without the spikes and now i have an extension i don't really need it.
I have moaned about these countless times before, these are cack and very expensive cack at that, avoid at all cost's, yes they look good if you have a matching tent but they really are a bad design, very similar to there side extensions...Avoid
These work, look great and don't cost a fortune. Blue Diamond, here's a link
