Is there anything you can buy which would secure the folding camper to the car when parked at a Motorway Services? One of us stays with the camper at the moment because we are concerned that it may be stolen as you would only need to unhitch and off you go. It would be great if we could secure it and not have to worry.
Many hitch locks can be fitted when parked up. I've got a Bulldog Mini that can be used this way (the large Bulldog can't). I did this a while back when it was parked up in the car park at work.
They say you shouldn't leave them on when towing, but a lot of people do!
The other alternative is an easily fitted wheel clamp I guess.
Thanks for the advice. Stupidly I had not thought of using a wheel clamp. We have one at home when the trailer is parked on the drive and we take it with us for when we are on site. I think a heavy duty chain and padlock will also be a good investment.
I use a chain, but also the cars low slung so i take the jocky wheel off at the clamp and lock it away. Stops the wheel rubbing on the road plus would make it harder to get stolen.
As I'm on my own I was concerned about leaving the car and caravan in services if I wanted to break my journey so I queried this with my insurance company. I had visions of having to unhitch it and fit the hitch lock and everything but they said the minimum that was required, for insurance purposes anyway, was a wheel clamp. I doubt there's much that would deter a determined thief to be honest.
