Right - we have relucantly bought a new tent as we didn't think we could fit our 7 week-old in our 2-man mountaineering tent unless we dangled her from the ceiling. And we're off camping next weekend (not this one, got a few days to prepare yet).

So... who's been camping with an infant, and what do we need above and beyond the obvious stuff (breasts, changing stuff). I can see we need some shade, but since the new tent has space to sit inside, not to mention potential to stick up an awning, that doesn't seem like a big problem. Plus if things go pear-shaped we can dive into our in-law's caravan, cheating or not :)

Anything essential I haven't thought of?

Popup cot? Other than that it's all the normal paraphernalia you have to take with a baby!

The only thing we find we need on top of the normal stuff is loads of clothes as he loves crawling in the mud, but you won't have that problem yet.

We find a big towel to put over his pushchair to make it dark help get him to sleep is a lifesaver!  Apart from that we just take the usual bits.

hiya,

we took our l/o at 3 weeks!

the biggest problem for me was keeping him warm, as a first time mum i had noidea what to do with him.

I found that he needed a vest, sleepsuit, tracksuit hat and blankets to keep him warm for our second trip a couple of weeks later i managed to borrow several of the zipup fleecy oversuits and a snowsuit so he was snuggly warm.

bathing we managed with a clean washing up bowl, i didnt like the idea of putting him in cold clothes so had them tucked up daddys jumper to warm up while i was bathing ds.

ds slept in his moses basket which was sat on a folded fleece to stop the cold coming up and once he was  in place we put another fleece completly over it to stop draughts.

good luck and enjoy it.
