Just back from 2 wet, windy, but suprisingly enjoyable weeks in Cornwall (Harlyn Bay-yes it really did blow/rain!!!!!!!!) .Anyway, thought you might like to know how the following items fared:
Combi cool 3 way fridge (ran on gas) bit tricky to get it to light initially, but excellent for cold G+T etc Warmed the awning a bit too
Kyham garden shelter (gazebo with walls based on their external fram fast erect system like the ridgipods etc). THis was ace-needed an extra pair of hands to hold it down to start with in the wind, but when pegged and guyed it was superb-no fear of it flying off, unlike a couple of ordinary gazebos we saw.... Kept the wet clothes in it! Also very good as palatial toilet tent as that lost a crucial nut on the last day and we reurned from a day out to find the toilet tent still vertical, but flat and the loo outside
Cobb (of course). Great. Did roast chicken and it was as good as everyone says. Also foil packages of sliced spuds/oinions etc to go with sausages and baked butternut squash. Used heat beads and always plenty left to wet down and re use.Again I cooked with it on the folding (plastic ) table in the Khyam shelter out of the rain/wind-no problems (did light it outside as the lighter cubes do blaze initially).
Fab, glad to hear you love your cobb as much as I do, only had myne a month and use it as much as possible this week thought about buying the frying pan but in Lidil came across a round baking tin 2 in the pack £3.99 just the right size and it all still fits in the Cobb bag. so will need to either drill 2 holes for cobb handle or buy a camping pan handle a couple of quid much much cheeper than £40 for the real thing.
glad you had a good time despite the unpredictable weather!!! that's camping eh! Know this is veering off the subject slightly, but which site did you stay at & what did you think (we absolutely love the beaches around Harlyn Bay and were thinking of booking for next year) Speaking of your Khyam shelter - we have a Khyam Ridgi dome tent which are v similar construction & yes it has withstood some amazing conditions (all during diff summers) wouldn't change it for the world.
We are going to Treyarnon bay in November ...not camping I have to say ..hiring a house ..V cheap between 8 of us ..wonderful cliff top position ..and great cliff top walks and watching the wild waves ..with 4 walls around you ..cornwall to ourselves ..and some wonderful beachcombing to be done!

We're wussy campers too Caroline - not just the weather, but once the kids are back at school we've no chance - what with football, tennis,cubs etc let alone my work! Anyway love it all the same. Hope you have a great time - just love that bit of Cornwall.
We're just back from a wet and windy week near Swanage, where the Cobb was great. Did the roast chicken, sausages, burgers and also fantastic parcels of roast veg - sliced courgette, aubergine, onion, garlic, cherry tomatoes in foil with a little olive oil - yummy! All the heat beads we needed for the week fit inside the carry bag, it really was neat and easy to have around. I am not good at lighting fires (they sense my presence and go out instantly) but even I can cook on the Cobb without having to pluck anxiously at my husband's sleeve :-)
Baked butternut sounds good, too - I'll have to try that. How long did it take to cook?
Our Khyam tent stood up to some atrocious weather this week - most impressed.
Don't like to appear daft but what's a Cobb? They sound the ideal way of preparing food - at the moment can only do fryingpan/saucepan food and would love something diffement.
Reading Graine's posting it sounds as its something that can be used by tenters.
The Cobb - it's a sort of portable barbecue - they sell it as a 'cooking system'. You can use it as a barbecue, but also as a sort of oven - does a mean roast chicken. You can also hot smoke things on it (like salmon - delicious) but this might be rather antisocial if camping as it really is smokey. But great at home now and again for a treat.

And I can endorse everything said in the review - it's great. I also really like the fact that you can pick it up and move it around when it's lit - means you can move it out of the way of little campers when needed, or put it on a table. We've used it on top of our aluminium roll up table, and it has had no damage done to it at all.
Do a search on Cobb in the equipment forum and you'll get lots more info from people who use them camping.
