Hi all...

Can anybody advise a cheap, but safe dinghy for my two kids age 9 and 5 to use on  a small campsite lake.

Cheers

camping gaz ones are cheap as chips - but as for safety - well no children should be left unsupervised in a dinghy - I would say that a couple of life jackets ( I know it sounds OTT )  would be advisable as well.

Also check to see if inflatables / boats are allowed on the water there.

Thanks for your reply...yes have checked and all ok

Unfortunately im a single dad of 2 so even the product linked maybe out of my budget for this trip....im wary about trusting the v.cheap ones thinking they may cause me more worries

Was wondering if anyone had experience of ones in the sub £20 bracket

Are you going anywhere near a seaside town?  If so then there'll be loads of shops selling cheapy dinghys.  Got ours one 3 years ago, just let them down this summer.  Agree with Simon W about the lifejackets, got ours from Decathlon, they were about £15 each.

Ah, I'd not put the two posts together and realised I was talking to the same person.  We love it at Fforest fields, our dinghy came from a daytrip to Aberystwyth while we were camping there but it's a long way to go for a dinghy!

If it's only for the ponds rather than the lake have you got an old lilo (or leaky old airbed) or one of those big rubber rings kicking about anywhere in the garage/loft?

A definite must especially for the younger one is a fishing net and bucket for catching the newts and insects in the ponds, my kids (10 & 13) tell me they're too old now, they could have told me before i packed rather than after we came home!  A pair of crocs and shorts is better than wellies too if you've got them, saves space in the car and you don't have to pour the water out of them and get them dried.
