Last time out I noticed our leisure battery was getting VERY hot. We always have an electric hook-up so don't really rely on the battery - however I had noticed that it wasn't holding a charge between each time we used the caravan.

So as I say, last time out I noticed the battery running very hot - I could feel the heat coming through the seat in the caravan - so as a precaution overnight I disonnected the Electirc hook up to stop it charging as it looks like it's shorting internally and there is I presume a danger of explosion.

So, to cut a long story short, I forgot to get the battery replaced and am abaout to take the caravan out this weekend - Can I simply run the caravan off the electric hookup and DISCONNECT the battery terminal to stop the system trying to charge it? Any reason within the caravan circuittry why that shouldn't work?

Caravan is two year old Compass Omega 505.

Check the handbook, it will say whether there needs to be a battery on board.

On older caravans there needed to be a battery connected, but on newer ones it isn't needed.

I don't know the technical reasons for this, something to do with the type of charger/transformer that it has.
