As already mentioned, a 12v compressor fridge would be the best solution, we have a Waeco CoolFreeze CF25 and that will run indefinitely of a combination of leisure battery and car battery for over a week or more no problem.
It won't flatten either battery completly as it has built in protection, so that your car battery will always still be able to start the car, and your leisure battery won't get ruined.

I have mine mounted in the top of the fridge where the cable is supposed to be stored.
Wiring it in was easy enough, I just chopped into the main supply before the hot/cold switch on the fridge.

Brilliant idea. How did you insert the temp probe into the box interior without compromising the insulation? And, as a matter of interest, did you leave the circuit board exposed or case it in?

Indeed thistable will give you all the information on consumption and running times for Waecos and the MPPT calculator on this page would give you some idea of the required solar panel capacity to put the consumed power back in, if you wanted to go off grid. Just bear in mind that you will need the capacity to put in more power to account for non solar productive days as well as extra battery capacity for the same.
Yep, we were in the South of France this July, and the Waeco CoolFreeze CF-25 was left running in the car for 3 weeks, 24/7 with no ill effect to the car battery, and the fridge temp stayed at a constant +4Deg C.
We have had two weeks with a 12v cool box, no ehu, no ice. First we cooled it to the Max at home using a mains to 12v adaptor. We topped this up by plugging it in the van every time we went somewhere and only whilst we were travelling/van engine was running. We bought milk in small bottles often. We had no problems keeping it cool. We ensure that we take everything we are going to need out in one go to limit the times it is opened and therefore keeping it cool. We did have a bucket for the cold water method for our cider but didn't need it
