Stubcroft farm site stipulates fires have to be in a firepit that's 18 inches off the ground - anyone have any idea where I can find one? Booked there thinking you could have open fires, but it's all got a bit complicated now! (I want the fire more than barbecuing as we don't do much of that)
We use a small bucket type firetin/ BBQ tin which was £9.99 from Go Outdoors , but have also seen them in Morrisons and a few other places.. basically a bucket with detachable legs in a neat and tidy carry bag (also comes with grill) very compact and lets off a load of heat!
I used to love my BBQ that was about 2'6" off the ground. The 4 legs came off and fitted into the BBQ 'pan' and the back of the BBQ folded down to produce a 'case'. You could adjust the height of the grill and there was another 'trough type' cage that fitted at the top. When our previous van was stolen in May the BBQ went with it.
It was really good because (i) is was compact (ii) off the ground so that I could cook comfortably from sitting on a chair (iii) the flexibility of raising or lowering the grill (iv) the trough type cage at the top was ideal for putting food on to keep warm while finishing off the rest or for putting the odd piece of meat that caused a 'flair up'.
I have tried to replace the BBQ, but at this end of the season cannot find one that fits my stringent barbecuing requirements . If anyone can help me locate anywhere I can get one of these from, please do get in touch!
Thank you, that's really helpful! There's a sunncamp one that's around that looks good, but it's still very low off the ground - maybe I can scrounge some bricks.
Wow , thanks wenpip - I couldn't find one of those anywhere (every homebase within miles sold out) Have ordered it now just hoping it arrives before bank holiday!
Our bucket was black when we first got it but after 2 years of use, its just a tin with rust! hahaha! ..but, we love it lots and it still remains one of our most prized bits of kit to this day..
Top tip - we buy those bags of instant lighting charcoal ( normally have 3- 4 seperate packs in each large bag and cost about £2.99 from most Supermarkets) and the packs fit perfectly in the bucket! We can normally fit x 2 bags inside our carry case.. So we have a BBQ for a late Tea and then keep topping up with wood to keep it in .. its brilliant!
