I have just come back from 2 weeks away and my Trailer just isnt big enough, I have the Halfords Erde 122 and from looking through this forum it seems that the side extensions arnt available for that model of trailer.
I was just wondering if anyone else on here has an Erde 122 and has managed to extend the sides, DIY or otherwise.
Id be grateful for some ideas other than buy a bigger trailer, Im even thinking along the lines of putting a lockable box of some sort inside the trailer which will stick out of the top by a couple of feet.
I have an erde 122 and bought a high cover with frame from halfords, but it had to be ordered. Does the job though much more room in the trailer now.
My bro in law has the same trailer and he made a wooden frame. he has made it by attaching 4 pieces of wood together to make an end ( times two of these, for either end of trailer). Then he has left lip on them and made two side ones that slot in. Very clever and it works, (wish we'd thought of that lol). Anyway he then covers the whole lot in a 2.99 tarpaulin he bought.
We all went camping last week and he seemed to get loads of stuff in it.
Thanks for getting back to me, I have the 122 as well I just realised I had written 142 by mistake.
I have seen your frame and cover advertised but can you tell me is it purely a frame ?? is there anything to hold in the goodies other than the cover ??
Your brothers idea sounds great, I dont suppose he has any pictures you could post so I could see what he has done.
This shows the Daxara range of accessories ( Daxara is the sister company to Erde).
There is a 30cm frame/cover assy available for the Daxara 127 (Erde 122 Equivalent)
I too have an Erde 122 (wish I'd got the 142 now) with the ABS hard-top which adds a fair bit of space and I'm considering adding the load bars to the top of it and then buying a roof-box.
I'm beginning to think that it'd be more cost effective to hire the services of a removal company for our camping trips !!
Thanks for your posting, I will check out that link thanks, Im hoping that Mary will reply to my question re the 30cm frame/cover.
Im not surer which way to go now, I was thinking maybe the hard cover like yours was the way to go as at least its lockable, is it reasonably hard wearing and tough, the pictures Ive seen on the www make it look a little flimsy.
right, the frame sits on the trailer and the cover goes over and the elastic from the cover attaches to the trailer, now you might already know this but even though you might think its not good enough it is.
my hubby and I fill the trailer then add the frame, then he fills that to breaking point lol. Then he puts the cover on and once the elastic is attached to the trailer theres no moving it.
As for my bro in laws, well I think its a great idea and much much cheaper too!!
ours was about 90 quid, and his was less than a tenner lol including the tarpaulin! I will see if he will get it out for me to take a pic with my digi camera. But it wont be till the weekend because he's working all week, so as soon as i can I will. But its great cos the frame interlocks and he said it was really easy to make too!
I looked at the hard cover too and I thought for the price it wasn't worth it (there was one on display with our trailer when I bought it). It wasn't very high compared to the cover and frame, and it was twice the price! Also there's storage, i.e. finding storage for it at home, the frame and cover packs away in a really small space.
So I went for the frame and cover which I find exellent
I hadnt given a thought to the extra storage but how right you are, Im pushed for space so thinking about it the hard top is definately out, its going to have to be something I can take off and put away.
Im definately warming to the frame and cover you have.
I also have a 122, don't use it for camping and don't have extended sides but jhave made a frame to sit on top to allow me to carry 8 X 4 sheets of whatever. Would have thought a sheet of shuttering ply and a few feet of quartering from local timber merchant together with a cover from B & Q you could manufacture your own extension probably for less than 20 quid.....Mick
We have an Erde 193 with hard top and roof bars for 3 of the bikes, our family of 5 fill it, the boot of an estate and a roof box! We got it cheap from Feu Vert in dunkirk- still cheaper despite daytrip fare. We store the whole thing ( it is lockable and got trailer lock from Essex camping)- in back garden.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
