Just joined to discuss how to use the Coleman PerfectFlow stove that we bought and enjoyed using recently in Canada back home in the UK.
I read the various posts about using the POL to 'appliance' adapters, but haven't seen any discussion about the US and UK POL connectors being different, as indicated here. AIUI the US one is slightly smaller and will appear to make a connection to a UK cylinder, but not a reliable one.
To hopefully address this I was thinking of getting a UK POL-1/4" male cylinder fitting, then adding a Mr Heater 1/4" female to 1"-20 (part F276140) adapter. Then maybe a Coleman 8' extension hose, which I think has 1" male and female ends.
Does anyone know if I'm headed down the wrong track here?
As an alternative, my research found this blowtorch instruction leaflet which seems to say that the 1"-20 TPI thread used on the Coleman bottles is officially designated CGA 600. As I think is mentioned elsewhere this is used on the Bullfinch propane cylinders. It also looks like the Rothenberger cans and maybe the hose adapter shown here might be a way forwards. I'd imagine most plumbers merchants could get these items to save carriage costs. £7.99 for a 400g propane can looks like good value compared to the eBay prices for 'proper' Coleman bottles.

I can confirm that the Mr Heater hose connects and makes a reliable connection in my opinion, not had any issues with it. If it did not I would not be using it as it would not be safe to do so.

Yes I would say you are using a sledge hammer to crack a nut. If you read the threads on this subject others and myself use the Mr Heater hose (POL to Coleman) and it works fine with UK POL bottles.

Thanks. I have no wish to overcomplicate it, but as you say its worth being safe on this so do want to dig deeper.

I dug a little deeper on the specifics of the connections.
The US one is described as a 0.885"-14TPI thread, while the UK one is 5/8" BSP. BSP is a bit odd as the quoted size is a nominal internal pipe diameter, so translating to the same 'style' as the US one courtesy of Wikipedia gives 0.902"-14TPI.
So that's ~0.5mm difference on the thread diameter, hence the comments elsewhere that a US male fits a UK female, but not the other way around.
I can't figure out if any of these parts is a taper thread, but assuming they are the BSP 1:16 taper would mean that the 0.5mm diameter increase would be taken up by 8mm of length: about a 4-turns on the 1.8mm thread pitch.
So I can now see how that would appear to be a reasonable fit. I'm sure there are rules/recommendations on the number of thread turns that should be engaged to give a reliable gas-tight seal. The way I read this is that the first 4 thread turns on the US POL male will be 'slack' in a UK female, so shouldn't be counted unless there is some 'spare' 8mm of thread to screw into on each part. Assuming there is then enough thread on the taper to give those recommended turns before the ends stop the proper mating I guess that counts as a suitable seal.

I,m new to this forum, and relatively new to camping too, so just going through the process of getting "kitted out".
I also have a Coleman Fold n Go burner, and have just realised I don't want to be continually buying expensive disposable gas bottles. Your post was really helpful.
Unfortunately, I've made a schoolboy error in the meantime, and having been gifted a Cadac Safari Grill, I have bought a bulk bottle of butane with regulator, hoses, etc.
Do you know of a similar solution to the one you describe, but for butane? That way I only have to carry one bottle in a very tightly packed car.
I suppose alternatively I could wait till I finish the butane and switch the Cadac to Propane as it's capable of either fuel. But this would mean new regulators, etc too.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
