I converted both my old Calor gas bottles over to BP Gas Lite earlier this year because of the much lighter bottle weight. However I now save quite a lot of money on the gas refills due to Homebase now selling the gas. About once a month Homebase will have some sort of saving going on across the board on everything so the trick is wait until they have a special 10%-15% off eveything then get you refill. a normal 5kg refill costs £16.99 but last time it cost me about £12.74 and today it only cost me £10.24 because they have 15% off everthing and also another further reduction.
You never get any discount on Calor because they dont sell through the Diy stores.
Sounds great..couple of question are they conected to the stove in the same way ie regulator and hose and will the regulator from calor gas fit bp light gas
Thanks Aaron

Hi Aaron
You will need a new regulator and thats it, also the gas is Propane so it's better in the winter AND when you first buy the BP bottles you are given a certificate so if you ever want to return them you will get you rmoney back on the empty bottle which you no longer get with Calor!
I suppose that is all very well if you run out of gas when there is an offer on but of course S*D's law being what it is you will run out of it when there is no offer on! I usually run out of gas on a campsite. BP is dearer per kilo in the first place than a 6kgs Calor at the full price (surprised me to) I do have a BP lightweight bottle but its for BBQ duty at home, in the van I use 2XCalor Lite. I have not tried but the BP one looks a bit too dumpy for the front locker and there is hardly any difference in weight.
That's good info, and I have been thinking about getting one of those 5Kg BP bottles for a while, there is often a voucher in the CC mag, at the start of the season to get discount from Homebase for the purchase of a bottle, I like the idea of the bottle having a window, I currently use two Campingaz 904's which to be fair are very compact, but at £18 each for a refill, which gives around a third of the Gas that the BP will hold it's a no brainer, I am a camper and this year for the first time took EHU, so I only used a little Gas, even on a 2 week trip, and came back with one full 904 and the other over half full at a guess, so the BP will see me through a two trip into France no problem, as I understand that you can not get refills for the BP in France, which was my original concern, in answer to Aaron's question the Calor reg will not fit, conections to the stove are via a tube as normal, although I am told that Homebase will chuck a BP rgulator in for free when you buy a bottle, also the BP reg will fit the "Le Cube" bottles that are available in France, but that would still mean having to pay for a bottle as there is no refill agreement as yet in France for BP, also the BP is Propane like most Calor, whereas Campingaz is Butane which does not perform well in very cold conditions.
Yeah the price of BP lite is a little dearer normally I agree which is why I always wait for the offers at Homebase. If you have 2 BP lite bottles then you are not caught short if one runs out and thus gives you plenty of time to get it refilled when Homebase has the offer. I find one 5kg bottle will last at least 4 weekends away when not on electric and when on electric a full bottle willlast 2 weeks easy, we just got back from France where our first BP bottle which was partly used only run out a few days before we were due home.
Its an easy routine to get into and the 2x 5kg bottles fit in my front locker fine, they dont sit in the recess but the straps holf them firmly in place.
If you use a lot of gas, the most economical way to by gas is to buy a Gaslow refillable cylinder (not cheap!) and then fill up with LPG at garages, 50p/litre.
If you don't use a lot of gas, it doesn't matter! We only use 0.3kg a week as we always use sites with hookup and the microwave when ever possible so using gas is just for toast and incidental use of the oven.
The Homebase offer back in March was £10 off which is better than the 15% of deal but only by £3.25, although it would be good to get both at the same time as that would bring the price down to £28! for a full 5Kg bottle, anyway little chance of that happening, current 5Kg bottle price is £45, the offer back in March which ran 13th - 27th was limited to to the first 5,000 bottles, seems a lot to sell in just 15 days, and it would be intersting to know if they sold that many. I would imagine they will run the £10 of, offer again next year me thinks.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
