Are you asking for approval or something? I can't understand what your getting at here? Its up to you if you want to cook in your tent, I'm pretty sure it won't be legal for ever though, just have a think about all the other silly laws out there already!
We don't cook in our tent because I do think its dangerous. We have actually bought a utility tent to use in bad weather. However, looking around campsites loads of people do cook in their tent. I suspect its dangerous, but not really that dangerous, its all a matter of degree, crossing the road is dangerous. My brother once set his cooking table on light with a leaky gas cannister, so if that had been in the tent it might have been dangerous. And I once used a dodgy heater in a tent and it shot flames everywhere, so no gas in a tent for me. I've never met anyone who has seen a tent fire, there are a couple of videos on You Tube, so it can happen, but it must be rare. Having said that, like I say, we use a utility tent.
The problem isn't gas bottles going up - the problem is if you set light to something in the tent and the whole lot goes up. At least outside you have a chance of putting it out.
However, when I've been camping alone, or with just a couple of us, then I have quite happily cooked away under the porch bit of my 2 man tent when the weather has been really bad.
Go to the chippy its safer! lol I have children, cooking in a tent is a big no no in our family, their lifes are too precious to risk for the sake of an easy meal in the tent, I'd rather get wet outside for 5 mins!

Exactly. Can't beat fish and chips, the lovely smell of vinegar, and all that, while sitting in a tent watching and listening as the weather hammers down outside. Priceless
Definitely! Don't even think about deep frying in a tent, though I will use the porch area for making coffee, heating canned foods etc. with suitable precautions - like nothing inflammable directly over stove and extinguisher to hand!
At the end of the day truckeroxford its your tent and you and your families safety so if you feel that its ok then you carry on and do what you want to do. However, like most accidents they normally involve an innocent 3rd party at the very least. If you camp next to a family who are asleep in their tent when accidentally your tent catches fire and burning tent material is blown onto their tent which then catches fire how will you feel then ? Synthetic tents burn very fast and whilst most suggest that they are flame retardant this does not mean they are fire proof. Your suggestion that its people who dont know what they are doing is totally ridiculous. We have been camping for many years and we had a canister go up on us just recently. On this occasion it was due to a faulty canister seal that initially was ok but shortly after lighting the stove started to leak and within seconds the whole stove was a mass fire ball.
If you feel the need to cook in your tent and I agree lots of people do then you need to accept that it is a risk and take other peoples safety into account by ensuring that you are pitched far enough away from any other tent that if god forbid your tent did catch fire then only you and your family will be at risk and not endanger other innocent people.
