I am a novice camper - one trip in, and about to book my second. I will book EHU, but the site I'm interested in has foxed me by offering three types! 5, 10 and 16 amps. Obviously there is a price implication. I really only use EHU to run small (powerful) appliances, like a standard kettle/toaster. Do I need 16 amp, or can I go for 10?
the easy way to check this without too much trouble is think of 5amps as 1000w, just check the power of the items you are using they all should be marked.
about the only thing you have to be more careful with is a micro wave oven,as one that is sold as say an 800w may use a lot more than that.
don't work too close to the hook up limit as you may some times get less than stated,

10amp should be enough, as this gives you about 2kw, but be awre that if you are taking a kettle from home, check the rating as they can be up to 3kw on their own. Also are you using inbuilt water heater as these use a fair bit as well.
Just add up the watts of the equipment that you will have on at any one time - if its under 2000 you'll be ok, if more go for the 16 amps which is the normal amps available on caravan club ehu's, and really is quite a lot.
If you are taking your domestic kettle from home you may get away with 10amps but some are pretty powerful and need the 16amp especially if you are running other things at the same time.
We've used a 10A many times with the caravan, because there was no choice.
We can run fridge, water heater (0.45kW), lights & telly all the time along with the blow air heating on high speed (2kW).
With blow air heater on low speed (1kW) together with the items above, we could boil a kettle. With it on high speed (2kW) we couldn't boil a kettle. We had to switch the heating off while the kettle was on but as this is only for a few minutes it was OK.
