is it ok to use an electric coolbox as a normal coolbox? I have 2 electric coolboxes but am going camping next weekend without electric. What I wonder is will the box cope if I just take bags of ice and frozen milk/ meals etc. I've been looking at getting an Igloo maxcold as tbh even on electric the sound of the motor/fan on the coolboxes drives me nuts at night.
Anyone seen any good deals on the Igloos?

Hi pager33,
we have a campingaz one and yes the fan does drive you nuts,we turn it off at night and then back on as soon as we get up.The stuff is still cold inside.
And yes if required you can just use it as a normal non electric cool box.------------- Sue & Phil

The electric ones have to be well insulated to hold the cold when their switched off and also to make the most of any cooling they produce, so yes, they do make very good coolboxes.

Our electric box came with a spare ordinary lid so it can be used as a normal coolbox and it gives us a bit more room inside.

Either ours is quiet (not that I'd have thought so esp.) or we just don't notice things like it as I don't even notice the noise of ours

I've got something similar too - with a 12v cigarette lighter connector - ideal to use in the car.------------- David

We have 2, one for food and the other for drink. We also turn them off at night. If it is particularly hot I chuck a bag of 99p ice in the drinks one - it takes about a day to melt but at least we have ice for Pimms o'clock!!!------------- Margaret
