no, the roundy bits tend to be 'openable' but the heat that comes out of the burner itself is hot enough to boil a kettle on!

so, as long as it has a flat surface, you can cook on them!

Tina, I've just had an offer from a guy who makes stoves from gas bottle and sells them on ebay to do me a smallish one for a tent, from a 7kg bottle, for £85 + tenner delivery. This is with a hotplate, and the bottle is vertical to save space.

pete, the only trouble i can see, is , as with this ozpig, it is designed for outdoor use, and therefore wont be 'safe' to use inside due to carbon monoxide poisoning. also, do you know where you can buy the silicon sleeve that the flue sticks through the canvas on its own?? i have only seen them as part of a 'package' .

but..... if your man can guarentee the safety side of things, i could be mightily interested!!!

Tina, this is how the flue flashing works http://soulpad.co.uk/sanctuary/content/view/112/25/ You csn buy flue kits from Soulpad but they are expensive. An alternative would be to look for silicon flashing kits on-line (there seem to be a lot) and use something else for the flue (flue pipe is cheaply available from builders merchants). As for risk of carbon monoxide poisoning - well, you need to make sure the tent is ventilated at ground level (door open) so fresh air can be drawn in, and some stoves are fitted with another pipe that leads outside for fresh air for the fire to be drawn in.

I'm going to speak to this guy about this again. i've got a bottle here myself, but i'm sorely tempted to spend £85 + delivery if it'll save me a day of cutting and welding! I'll let you know what he says.

Just saw this and wanted to say the Ozpig is great.www.ozpig.co.uk  I've got one and it doesn't take long from firing it up to get it to temperature.  My kettle is ready in 5 mins of lighting it. It won't suit everyone but what convinced me was how solid it is. I got mine at the Malvern Motorhome show after watching the demo. It's built to last, the food tastes great and nothing beats a real fire when you're camping in my mind...especially with the colder weather coming.

but it does state that it is an OUTDOOR stove....so no good for inside a tent??? i am looking into buying one for a bell tent (that i really must hit the 'buy' button!!)

oooh btw petermills, i have been looking at obelink and bell tent prices, and with the differnce with the current exchange rates and the delivery charge, i would only be saving £40 if i ordered it from the netherlands, and for that i would prefer to know that i could send it back incase of any problems!!!

"Outdoor" stove, to me, means not for use in a house....but in a bell tent, with a proper flue, and so fire can't escape, and so it's not sitting on the ground sheet and with proper ventilation, I don't really see a problem. Look at what people do in tipis.....nice open fire or fire box sat in the middle, with the smoke cap of the tipi open to let the smoke out! when I went to Finland there were a load of us sat in a Sami tent with a roaring fire in the middle - brilliant!
