i want a point for my daughter to watch tv in caravan (1989 eldiss) can use a genny but noisy smoky expensive heavy, could i buy an inverter crocodile clip to battery under seat and simply plug in, a bit heath robinson but would it do the job
The trouble with using crocodile clips to connect to a battery is that you can create a spark when doing so. Batteries release explosive gases and are kept in a confined space in a caravan or camper, so it is not a recommended practice.
Why not connect the TV to one of the 4 sockets using an extension lead?
When I had a caravan without mains I used one of these to run a small TV. It lasted a weekend of intermittent use, about 6 hours I think

If you have 240v already and just want another socket outlet - no problem.
You can spur off of an existing socket,
Fix your new socket where you want it, run some 2.5mm twin and earth from this to one of your existing sockets (hiding the cable inside cuboards etc) and connect it in.
You must of course make sure that all your work is up to the correct electrical standards, if you are not confident it may be worth getting expert help, but it is a fairly straight forward job.
Another option would be to use an extention as suggested above, this would avoid the risk of running foul of the electrical regs.
thanx for response meant to say that use caravan for mx aswell as holidaying, so parked in middle of a field with no supply hence generator or alternative
It depends what TV you have.I have a 19 inch 240 volt LCD tv which is rated at 40 watts if you ran that via an inverter it would use app 4.5 amps via an inverter from the battery,allowing for the inefficiency of an inverter,however I would hesitate to run it via a cheap modified sine wave inverter as I have read that LCD tv's require a pure sine wave.

If it is 1.5 amps at 240 volt that would be 360 watts if thats the case it would pull 30 amps plus per hour at 12 volts,not really a viable option for a battery supply.
