Its handiny to keep a windup lantern in case you battery one runs out but you might as well keep spare batteries instead.------------- Every days' a holiday !....

I use a Roger Baylis one that I bought from QVC.
I have had it now for approx 5 years and it is still going strong, it has a normal white light and an amber night light function.

We have a very good one from IWOOT (I want one of those). It is round on a silver base and cost about £25.00
It can be wound up, or charged in a car lighter. When we had EHU last year we used an adapter to plug the car charger into the mains. About an hours charging was enough to keep in going all night.

Hi Westfalia Addict & welcome to the forum
Many campers on this forum (including myself) highly recommend the UFO lights. LED lights in a circle, like a UFO. They last ages on 3 AA batteries, they're quite compact and lightweight. They come with a loop to hang on a hook in the tent. I paid £3 for mine from Morrisons.
Do a search on here for UFO lights, and you'll find lot's of info about them.

Can't fault these.
Used 2 of them for long periods last summer and they are still both on the same set of batteries - these were cheapo batteries from Poundland too.
I couldn't believe how efficient they were.

I third the advice although ours got through 2 sets of batteries in a month last year. We do read a lot though.

"Wind up" lanterns is a good name for the couple we were given as a gift - they were a complete joke!
UFO lights - we bought ours from Outdoor World in Warrington and they were great, but were faulty by the end of the season - I will probably be buying more for next year, though because they're so cheap and efficient on the batteries.
I do have my eye on a light I saw for sale from America - but it weighs in at 3lb, so would probably be too heavy to hang... (and would cost a small fortune to ship over!)
