Im thinking of asking my parents to get me one of these for my birthday to take camping. I've been looking at the JML & Coopers models and would like a bit of advice.
How good are they
How big are they - space being a premium but I do need to feed 4
It says that it takes 1300 watts I presume this is adjustable and this will only be the wattage when its used at 250degs? Thinking about when we on 6amp hook ups
Finally, any bargains to be had on these anywhere?!
Most thermostatically controlled devices like this will draw the full 1300 watts while they warm up and each time the thermostat switches back on - regardless of what temperature setting you have it on. This is assuming there's only one heating element, if there are 2 or 3 (like in an electric fire) then a lower setting will draw less power. As you've spotted, 1300 will be on the brink on a 6 amp supply.
I bought a halogen oven and couldn't get on with it at all. My cousin bought one which she thought was brilliant at first but is losing faith in and reverting back to her normal cooker and microwave.
There are very few recipes for them, too, so a lot of it is hit and miss.
we bought one of the cheaper makes and it is cr*p , now before some one jumps in we are not idiots it just does not do what it says on the can (as they say) the size of chicken they say is to close to the heat source, pork steaks are dried up by the time they are cooked, frozen or chilled meat pies take 50% longer than the time on the packet in fact the the only things it does well are part baked bread buns, they are cooked through and a great colour i cant remember the make but its only a 7lit size and as soon as the lidl ovens come back it will be replaced.
the amount of good press they get on here probably means that the problem is we should have paid more for one..

------------- they said it couldnt be done so i left it and went camping
a bad days camping is better than a good day at work
We bought one of the little ovens from scots of stow. I don't think its halogen, but it is fantastic. It cooks stuff to perfection in the time stated on the food packaging.
Had ours over a year now .... use it most days .... love it - for all cooking - cakes - roasts - ready meals - jacket potatoes - pizza's - pies - great for full english (shove it all in 15/20 mins done - no watching it turning and poking about)
Only thing can't get right is yorkshires - just not doin it (any tips) - really want to watch them rise lol
NY's day cooked a whole duck - it was done to a turn - and left with over pint of fat beneath the rack
Got one of the halogen ovens from Poundstretchers. Lasted 2 days and it got taken back. Absolutely rubbish. Cooked everything on the outside and left the inside raw. Its also a bit heavy on the watts for taking camping too.

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.
The happiest people aren't the ones who have everything they are the ones who make the most of everything they have
we have had one for a few months now. think they are brill. if you are burning stuff or its just cooking the outside of food first, the heat is to high, plus tin foil helps.
