Anyone got one of these things, how do they work are they just a receiver or do you need another email address.
I work from home frequently and need access to email – so it is quite expensive staying on sites that charge for email and internet access, so I was thinking if I could link my laptop to my own system it would eventually pay for itself, but just not too sure how the system works
Any help would be appreciated
Happy New Year Everyone

Why not just get a pay as you go dongle. Our vodafone one cost us less than £20 for the whole season and we got all our emails and quite a lot of internet on our laptop.

Satellite internet is very expensive and in my view just for e-mail would be totally OTT. As suggest Mobile Broadband would be the cheapest option and even having a dongle for two networks would work out cheaper than satellite internet.
You can buy a satellite module that will attach to your laptop, this will allow you to download only only, as it is a one way street, the return path for you to send stuff is via landline or dongle so no point realy, to have full internet use both send/recieve you need an uplink facility, huge dish and mighty expensive, when I worked at Sky they explained to us a domestic system that was about to be launched that would allow full internet use from a small dish, it was the brainchild of SES ASTRA, who operate the satellite's for Sky, that was around 5 years ago, and I guess the product was put back in the can, as often happens with what we think is new stuff.
the broadband dongle is a good way to go - some mobile phones allow internet sharing when connected to a computer by USB or bluetooth and so will act as a dongle. Try googling your phone model along with internet sharing to see what turns up.
If your phone supports internet sharing check the data costs from your service provider
Get a i phone sync it to your home computer then all your e mails will come through your phone. the internet is good you can post messages on this forum sitting in the comfort of your own tent.
