hi all i would like to make my own 24ov mains hook up cable i have a 16 amp 3 pole plug (2+e) and plenty of blue cable all i need is the 3skt bit that goes on the other end that has the mcb\rcd integrated with the skts it looks like trip switches i have googled but cannot find one any where only the sunncamp ready made one please help if anyone is in the know
Why bother, to make your own, I shopped around and got my Sunncamp 3 way c/w 20mtrs or so of cable for £35 I also got the Sunncamp 25mtr extension cable for £17, that was from "The Range" late 2008, Argos price now £99! just for the 3 way, Camperlands were doing them for the same price as I got, and GoOutdoors were doing a different brand also for £35.
If you already have most of it then it might be worth keep looking for the rest, although I was originally going to make one and couldn't find the bits either.
I also worked out that the cable itself would cost quite a bit, plus the plug, and then as Steve says, if I could have found the socket bit it would probably have ended up costing more than a ready made one.
You don't have to be an electrician to make one up if you have the knowledge to wire a plug...but I suppose these days with everything already having a fitted plug that 'skill' is gradually being lost.
Having said that, I think I later saw a single socket plus MCB/RCD on ebay. It would be reasonable to use a protected single socket and an ordinary household extension socket but not ideal (although I use an extension on my 3 socket EHU for small power items).
It's not the knowledge that gives an electrician the edge, it's the ability to find the parts "lying around" at work! Ever wondered why an electrician working for a big firm in the day will do the job cheaper in the evening or at the weekend working for himself?
chances are an IP44 (minimum) rated CU with the same in sockets is going to be more for most people than a new unit.
I would buy a new unit, and ad a socket to the other end of the cable I have to use as an extension for those times where the pitch is miles from the socket.

Is it water resistant? It does not have any overload protection either. You need an MCB for this.
Steve.
yes it's for outdoor use
To be honest i don't use the home made one, it's just a spare if ever the 'proper' one played up
I have got the sunncamp one but I don't think that's particulary weather effective. Once a plug is in it the sockets are exposed anyway, then it usually ends up with an regular extension plugged into it, which sort of takes away the safety factor anyway
