Hi all,
I have just bought a second hand tourer and I am keen to get caravaning. I have been to several sites that state they may ask for an electrical safety certificate for you to go on site. Do you have to have one for a tourer if so what about the gas advise please tahnks Nick
I remember reading a posting about these, I believe they are referring to the sites electrical system and not yours. If they started asking for ESC's off everybody then pretty soon no-one would go to thier sites. Posting is somewhere on this site, please webmaster help us out!
There was a huge debate about this a while ago. You do not need any form of certificate for your unit. The site needs it's supply inspected regularly & they do need one. It is a mis-understanding of the rules. Sites CAN ask to inspect your electrical installation & refuse to let you hook up. This is intended to stop people with dangerous eBay special EHUs & the like tripping the supply off, burning the place down or electrocuting themselves. If you have concerns, most caravan service centres will test the wiring, as would many electricians.
hi, i think your talking about pir testing. it has been started by the ncc. all caravan service agents are having to do a course to cover the 240 volt side of caravans. caravans will have to be tested every year i think and you will be issued with a certificate to say it passed. site owners will be asking to see this certificate, if you dont have one they wont let you use thier ehu. there has been great debate on this on the practical caravan forum. hope this helps. ray.
My NCC approved mobile service engineer has told me there is a long waiting list to get on the NCC course and that it's not clear as yet if the certificate will take off. For this year he has suggested I carry a copy of his service report that covers electrical and gas systems in case I am asked.
Don't know what happens if you do your own servicing.
From next year he says that the pir test certificate will be integrated into his service report and he will not charge extra for this. Have read on here that some have been quoted over £100 for the certificate.
There has also been a thread about needing all electrical items you use PAT tested but this does not seem to be true.
