Well, finally persuaded the other half to give camping a try - (I was brought up on it). Got the tent, and all the family thought it was great when we had a go at erecting it in the garden, but we'll have to wait until next year to give it a real go!
Now, the question, we need to buy all the other gear; I assume that the outdoor suppliers (of which there are a few in the region) will have end of season sales - but any ideas when that would be?
Try Outdoor World on the top Chester Road in the grounds of Burton Nurseries (next to Goredale, know it?) I don't know about a sale, but their prices are generally quite cheap & they do have a lot of stuff in, it's nice just to look & get ideas anyway.
My best bargains so far have been Millets ,Big W ,Matalan CCC outdoors ,Towsure and catterick caravans ,But like i said If u look on the web sites only the tents are reduced
Can't believe no-one has mentioned good old 'Poundland' It may not be the best quality in the world but at least if it gets broken/damaged you haven't wasted a fortune! We got our some plates, lamps, pocket torches, food boxes and storage boxes in there. Keep a look out on the Lidl website too - sometimes have some really good bargains.
Millets have sale on clothing this week (Peter Storm stuff) 10% off!

The worst kind of trouble is the best kind of fun!
Great Outdoors in Burton is what finally managed to swing the camping idea with my wife, being close to her favourite Garden Centre meant that me and the kids could 'just have a look at the tents, while we're here', and she realised that maybe we wouldn't be roughing it quite as much as she imagined. I think the kids have as much fun looking in all the tents there, as me and my sister used to when our parents used to go browsing at Hugh Lewis.
I bought the tent from the Hugh Lewis website, £93 and only £3.95 delivery, and it arrived next day. I've seen it cheaper, (but I got a bit nostalgic), and also thought that it wasn't too far away if there were any problems.
My sister swears by Outdoor World in Bootle, but I've yet to check it out myself.
I'm currently an inveterate bargain hunter on the net, but I would agree that the bargains seem to be on tents and not gear.
The best sale we ever saw was the one at Camperlands in Manchester. We went in January this year and the majority of stuff had at least 15% off. I got a super thick Sleeping Bag with 20% off and it is great - very warm.
Their sale started on 30th August I believe, so it might be worth popping up there for a look. Not that far away - just past Trafford Centre.
Also, Halfords are good too, got my little girl a Gelert Junior 2 season sleeping bag for £9.99! trouble is she wants to sleep in it all the time now, I am having a hard time convincing her that quilts and sheets are better at home!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
