I am looking at a woodburning stove for my 5m bell tent now, advice please! I think it's better to site in the centre of the tent, you get all the heat from the chimney and the smoke doesn't have to go round corners, thoughts? The biggie though is which one to choose, and I think it has come down to the KP Wood Burning Stoves Workman or the Windy Smithy Louis. The workman is leading at the moment as it's quite a bit cheaper, anyone used either of these before or got any advice whatsoever? Much appreciated, going to first camp of the year at easter and think it might be cold enough for a stove!
Have a look at the forum 'Song of the Paddle' for lots of advice around bell tents and stoves. I did consider it but opted to just camp where I could have a campfire (obviously outside the tent!) as I knew I would get fed up with lugging the extra kit.

steve, give kevan at kp woodburning stoves, i wanted one that had a big cooking area, a back flue (top flues take away soo much cooking space, but as we have the kids, i wanted a glass window in the front so that they can see its 'hot' if htat makes sense..i also wanted the water tank that goes on it for filling hot water bottles and the amount of hot drinks/washing up etc that we go through.
kevan was really helpful and is making me a bespoke one! YAY!
i am sssssssssssssssssoooooooooooooooo looking forward to getting all this gear together and actually USING it rather then planning it all!!!!
but my belltent doesnt turn up till 25th may!! :(

Hi steve - I have bought a stove from Kevan at Kp wood burning stoves, and I have to admit the quality was fantastic, especially when the price is so low in contast to windysmithy. It kept us warm and boiled a kettle when we visited wales last year, and as we opted for the detachable legs, its easily stored.
Thanks - I was in too much of a hurry to wait and I have now ordered a Windy Smithy Louis, it's being delivered today. It wasn't that much more expensive so I thought I would go for it, have heard some good things about them but whether it's worth the extra I have no idea, will post a report once I have used it - this Easter weekend in Hidden Spring Vineyard.

What do these things weigh? I always though they were all cast & heavy items?
Not something to be used in or anywhere near a tent?
not really heavy, but not backpacking equipment !!
and yes...they are to be used inside the tent, that is what they are designed for , comes with flue and everything .. my tent has a flue out let already there, others you have to cut a hole for the flue.

It's definitely not backpacking, mine weighs 24kg! My tent is 5m in diameter and 3m high in the centre, canvas, so this will hopefully warm it up a treat on the cold nights.
