Hubby always complains about back ache when sleeping on an airbed so I've bought him a camp bed. It seemed quite comfortable in the shop but what are they like for a whole night? Any opinions greatfully received please.
Hi, I bought two of the Halfords aluminium ones just before Easter for the missus and myself. We used them over the Easter weekend and I have to say they were very comfortable, although I had a self inflating mat on mine and the missus had a foam mat on hers. The mats were more to keep the cold out than anything else but I would be tempted to continue using them. They take up more room than a double air bed because they are a fair bit higher but then they aren't so hard to get out of. I suppose it depends on how sloped the sides of the bedroom pods are.
Is the airbed too soft for him, or is it just the height?
We have two loungers that we were thinking of using during the night, as they can be laid flat, with our airbed on top, do you think they would be ok. Then of course use them during the day.
I`ve used a campbed for three years now and would`nt go back to airbeds for anything, much easier to get out of in the morning, and very comfy with a large duvet wrapped around me zzzzzz
We have a couple of the Outwell ones similar to what the army are using out in the field camps, we use them out in the awning for when our daughter comes to stay with us, her partner suffers with back problems so we bought some 3inch foam block to fit and sewed a cotton pillowcase type cover for it, now its just as warm and comfy as the beds at home, and the foam block just rolls up for travel and is secured by bungee cords before being placed inside the caravan with the awning.

We use boxed airbeds on top of campbeds, they fit perfectly, we'd never go back to anything else. We'd tried the double height airbeds but had nothing but problems, since we switched to airbeds on campbeds we've never looked back. They also have the advantage of being at bed height, you're off to floor so it's warmer and you can use the space underneath for storage. I love mine so much I don't like going home to my proper bed!!

We have used these with blankets underneath and we found them uncomfy. Maybe we didnt have enough padding under us. We have gone back to air beds. Sorry
I have already sung the virtues of camp beds in other postings, we use ours with half inflated airbeds on top, we find it a lot better than fully inflated, the real plus side is that it is a lot warmer, comfortable and much easier to roll out of bed in the mornings.
Because airbeds trap cold air inside them at night time make sure you insulate under and on top of them, the wife has made slip in covers for them from 2 old blankets that she had kept indoors for years “just in case”, we don’t use EHU sites and are always warm and snug in bed.
Also, as pointed out it creates some wonderful under bed storage, and that’s what every camper needs.
Remember, there is no such thing as bad weather, only ill prepared campers !!
We have camp beds for the children. At one point, youngest son wanted to sleep with us, so rather than leave his brother alone, youngest went in with OH (double airbed) and I slept on his camp bed. It was far more comfortable than the airbed! I can imagine it would be even better with another airbed on top, but I found it OK without

We do this too. We have some Coleman sleeping bag liners and we find they make perfect sheets if you pop the boxed airbed inside. Never slips off the airbed and makes them a bit more cosy.
