Hi all. We're off to a campsite which is pretty much on a beach in just over a months time. As the ground is likely to be quite sandy, do I need to look at any particular type of tent peg to ensure we don't get blown into the sea?

I've heard of thick wooden pecks being good for sand. Where are you going?

Whilst for an awning rather than a tent you can buy some extra long plastic pegs which are quite good in sand. I think I may have got them in France.

Looks like you're not pitching right on the beach but on grassy/sandy soil - is that right? We go to a lot of beach sites and we just use the normal pegs.

I'd agree with grapefruitmoon - you're not likely to need the "buried sandbags" idea (and you'd probably not be popular with the site owners if you tried it!) although there is a very large site across the bay from your intended location which does have some areas where this might be applicable.

Wooden pegs for very sandy soil. Thick plastic pegs with longitudinal ridges are okay-ish on lighter soil too. Be prepared to put two pegs per pegging point in a cross under the ground. Check your pegs at least twice a day. Use any shelter availlible to protect your tent from the prevailing wind...you can park your car as a windbreak, for example.

If on a proper sandy beach with a SIG a carrier bag full of sand in each corner and it wont go far.
