I've seen both bum to wind or side on recommended, with the tbs I'm thinking side on but with canopy I'm thinking bum,any tips? what gust wind should I be looking out for 30mph+ or lower?

Bum to the wind, every time. Tunnels tents don't like sideways winds. Your tent should be okay in under 30mph winds if guyed down properly but I'd suggest taking the canopy down before this point.

seems the location should give some shelter

this is looking south the camp field is the backwards L next to the central circle.

shadows makes me think there is the place to go.
