But its better to put something on the TOP to stop the cold coming into contact with you.
My preference is a plastic or foil backed picnic rug on top of airbeds. some use the mattress covers, like fake sheepskin, or the quilted ones, a duvet instead of a sheet.
No point insulating under the airbed, if its a choice between either/OR , because the air inside will still be cold air.
I put picnic blanket underneath the air bed and fleece blanket on top was still freeeeeezing though!!! Defo agree with the need for decent bags! We will be upgrading soon!
We use foil backed picnic rugs on the floor then thermal fleece topper (from Dunelm Mill) on top of the airbed followed by a fitted sheet. Then we have good quailty sleeping bags and if it's really cold, a fleece blanket on top of the sleeping bag!

Same again for the picnic rug, fleece thing and fitted sheet. We don't have bags though - just take the 13'5 tog quilt off the bed. Never been cold. Did it this weekend with no EHU but were still fine

Snap!
and snap again. Though it's a throw rather than a fleece blanket on top.
------------- If you see a family struggling to put up the tent then it must be us!
Just bought three plastic bottomed picnic rugs from Morrisons for £3 (down from £6)each to put under the airbeds - think I saw them mentioned on here - then will put blamket on top of airbed and fitted sheet. THEN our cozy sleeping bags.
We use a picnic rug underneath the bed and then put one half of a double sleeping bag I cut in half, then put a double fitted sheet over the top and then a thick duvet on top and we were toasty warm last time but the 2 weekends before where we hadn't packed the picnic rug and sleeping bag I was freezing and was awake most of the night

allways take a water-bottle - last weekend although the aerobed went down in the night - a foil backed beach mat, blanket on top of the bed, double sleeping bag and a blanket on top kept us toasty warm - wish I could say the same about my neck and back though
