We are fairly new to camping and after some sucessful trips last year in a borrowed tent we our now planning this years excursions in our own new tent
We would like some expert opinions on the best way to heat a tent on those really cold evenings and what sort of heaters are available without an electic hook-up
All ideas and advice would be very much appreciated

I would be careful with gas heaters personally. If you really have to I think the best bet is to get a powerful one & just use it for very short periods, they can be dangerous, so the less they are on the better.
Pocket hand warmers (several types available, including charcoal & gel) can be very effective, & very safe in comparison. Otherwise, the general opinion is wrap up warm!

I have to agree nutgone. I am a caravanner but experienced a tent fire caused by a gas heater the May Day BH weekend (see here: Fire in tent at Conkers). I'm sure they are safe if treated carefully, so the link is not meant to scare people, just to say, be careful.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
