Hi, I have brought a campingaz bistro stove and the canisters are 4 for £9.99 in argos, just been to the range and they had ones that looked the same (thay sat with the same stove as the bistro but was a differnt make) I was wondering if the campingaz bistro canisters CP250 are the same as the ones in the range (they were A something size?) as they are 4 for £5. Also could they be used with campingaz as the instructions with the stove say only use with the campingaz gas, or are they saying that to make more money? Also are all these types of canisters 'resealing' types, so I can take the canisters out when im not using them even if they not empty?
Would that be ok, then use a normal extension lead with sockets? Or would I need a male one, or a different thing alltogether? Im only planing to go for 3 nights and can't afford to spend much, but obviously don't want anything to be dangerous!
Many thanks for any replys and all the advise ive already read!
This is the sort of hook up you need if you are planning on using anythig electric.
Any of the hairspray type canniseters aof gas should work on any of the suitcase cookers
The campingaz ones are £8.49 for 4 in Argos and tha's a good price for them. You'll tend to find that theyare a bit better than some of the others and last a little bit longer. I always found we changed the cheaper ones more often.
The socket in your link is to connect either a caravan mains lead or a tent electric unit to the mains in a house, we have our caravan plugged in at home.
Any of the aerosol type cannisters will fit, but check the weight/volume of gas in them, they all look the same, but some of the cheaper ones actually have less in them. Go Outdoors sell them at around £12 for 12 cannisters on offer sometimes.
You can hunt around and find many differing prices for gas cannisters, they will all work but as said the cheaper ones seem to run out quicker. The hook-up leads were on sale in Aldi and B&Q last week around £30 with fitted RCD breakers, as linked by Keely. Just make sure to take adequate sleeping clothes as you can manage with out most things, but not sleeping warm just makes you miserable !
Hi, Loulou and welcome to UKCS! Re hook-up, if you really need electricity in a tent, please follow Keely's advice and get a proper purpose made unit suitable for tents (NOT the one in your own link). See here.
^^^ sound advice, although the prices in the above link are a little out of date, they are pretty much all £39.99 now, & can be found for around the £30 mark, if you're lucky. Take it from an electrician, don't cut corners unless you're BOTH qualified & competent, I say that as I have met a few who are qualified, but I would consider pretty far from competent! It may seem expensive, but once you've got it you shouldn't have to buy another for many years, just look after it.
Oh, & the suitcase cookers are fine, just remember to read & FULLY UNDERSTAND the instructions (ie: no massive frying pans etc.) & I always used to disconnect the cannister after cooking, remove it & put the plastic cap back on. Leave the others in the multi-pack packaging, then you know which cannister is in use. Great little stoves, never let me down (until someone nicked it!)
Do you really need electric hook-up? I camped for a few years without, before getting a hook-up. And we still use our whistle kettle on our suitcase stove to boil water for tea/coffee, even though we have electric now.

Many thanks for all your replies! I am going to have a look in aldi and B & Q today to see if they have any left for £30. Ive been camping before without elec & I will say its not for me! Also think it might be a bit easier and enjoyable going for the first time with a 2 year old as well. Thanks! xx
There's a safety warning out on the suitcase stoves! They are perfectly safe (I have one myself) as long as you remember that when you open it, you need to turn the pan stand up the right way to use it. It is sited upside down inside the case and a few dozy ppl have caused an accident by not turning them the right way up before using. Apparantly, used the wrong way around, the pan stand causes the whole thing to overheat, melts the casing and ignites the gas cannister!
