I cannot make up my mind between buying the Coleman Extreme or the Igloo Maxcold cool box. There is not much difference in the price, both are top of the range. However, I think the Coleman is lightly cheaper.
I currently have an Outwell 24Lt box that plugs into the mains but it's quite small and if I remember reading the instructions correctly, you are only supposed to run it continuously for 24 hours?
We are off camping next for 2 weeks to the Isle of Wight and need a good cool box that will keep things cold but big enough as well.
Any reviews on the two boxes I have mentioned would be appreciated.

Well, we have both. I'd say they performed the same as each other, which is very well indeed. We bought the Igloo second due to it having wheels. Someone posted the other day the Igloo have the biggest market share in the US by a long chalk and as they are both US makes you may draw something from that. Myself I'd have either, as long as I can wheel them.
Have you a Costco card or know someone with one, only they tend to have them at much better prices there?
On a similar topic, last weekend I went without EHU but as I was on my own for one night and hubby was only around for 2 I took a small tent. The Igloo stayed at home bit so as an emergency I took a CI Sport small lunch bag ( also a US make from Costco ) a one pint frozen bottle of milk lasted me all weekend. Still cold when I got home on Monday lunchtime so 3 whole days later. There wasn't even a freezer block in it, just the milk. See these Yanks, they know a thing or two about keeping stuff cool.

We have this Igloo and have just come back from a very warm, 5 day, camping trip. Very very impressed! I actually put a couple of ice blocks back into the freezer still pretty frozen! It kept things really cold all week,
Got some tips for best performance:
We used 12 iceblocks - I think 16 is recommended
We exchanged 4 ice blocks over the course of the week for more but eventually didn't bother when it was clear it was going to make it to the end of the stay and still be cold enough!
Keep it filled up.
Put frozen stuff in but not stuff that you have to cook from frozen unless you are going to cook it on day 1 or 2 - we took some Cabonara pre-packed stuff and while it acted as a great icepack it definitely didnt stay "frozen" past day 2.
I can't comment on the coleman but the Igloo was fan-blinking-tastic!

We've got the Coleman 36qt for non-EHU camping and are very pleased with it but I am sure the Igloo would do just as well.
Regarding your Outwell 24 litre, we've just bought one (special 'Family Week' offer from Yeomans, as mentioned in another thread) and they recommend giving it a minimum 1 hour break each 48 hours.

Igloos have more room inside according to the insulation they use, from what I have read, we looked at a coleman xtreme 36, its was HUGE with very think walls and pretty small space inside. We bought the igloo 40 it was much smaller on the outside and the same amount of room inside :-)
Just bought an Igloo Maxcold 70 a couple of weeks ago which we are going to take with us on Saturday. I chose this over the Coleman because of the measurements.
Our Coleman Xtreme 36 had it's first outing a couple of weeks ago. Two 2 litre bottles frozen before we left still had ice in them after 5 days of normal use (i.e. box being opened several times a day). Keeping the box outside the tent in shade helps.

Could anyone possibly confirm the internal measurements for both the Igloo and the Coleman. Not sure which to buy, so size will probably sway our decision - it's just for us 2.
Very happy with the Igloo Maxcold 70. Just spent 9 nights camping.
I filled it with frozen bottles of water, some frozen food and milk, some ice blocks and some chilled food, beer and wine. The cooler lasted for the whole holiday just added a few frozen ice packs every day and some frozen water and it worked fine. This wasn't bad considering the campsite freezer wasn't great and didn't freeze the ice packs very well.
It was getting to the stage of needing a good clean and starting afresh on the last day.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
