Bought a campingaz party grill but have not used it yet so can exchange. Just seen a cadac safari chef and don't know if I should exchange it for that instead. I already have gas for both units so I really need to asy for your experience on which is the better unit.
My needs are that we want to be able to BBQ when camping but the large hob on both means we can also use bigger pans than my 2 hob cooker allows when needed
we have the cadac safari chef and have just been camping for a week with it. We ate really well and did everything from cooking a whole chicken with spuds to a full english, it griddles burgers and steaks great and heats up a pan of water pretty quick as well. When it cooled down at night we just used the stove on its own and sat round it to keep warm
stick with the party grill - as an onwer/user of both I much prefer the party grill. we bought the safari chef as an 'upgrade' but think the party grill is the better of the two.
ok so the party grill has a smaller cooking surface but you can griddle bacon, sausage and mushrooms whilst frying an egg all at the same time.
the safari chef, whilst it has a slightly larger cooking surface, has a reversible cooking plate - the ridged griddle on one side, and the flat frying area on the other - which means you either fry your bacon/sausage etc to be able to fry your egg at the same time, or you wait for the cooking plate to cool enough for you to turn it over, or you use another stove to fry your egg.
the party grill is also more compact and lighter in weight and uses standard campingaz cv type cartridges - so if space is an issue, you only need to take one or two with you, then top up as necessary whilst you are away as these are availale everywhere, even Tesco or Argos!
the safari chef is bulkier and heavier, plus you need to add on the hose, regulator and gas bottle and this all takes up lots of car space.
hope this is of some help to you

Did you find tge party grill cooked okay, when I tried it (with water in the unit as suggested) I found that it only cooked towards tge centre of the unit. Does yours do the same?
I have a party grill and its great. It is nice and compact when folded and does everything I need. I would say look at both units and choose the one you feel will fit your cooking requirements and what you would want to cook. The Party Grill allows my to grill everything I would want to and then the I can change this for the wok which then gives me endless options of culinary delights.

it does get hotter in the middle than the edges, but then that is the same for any similar cooking device, and does help to manage what you are cooking by moving it around just as you would on a real BBQ.

Can't comment on the Party Grill but we love our Safari Chef. I've done bacon and egg at the same time. Juts cook them both on the flat side. No need to add any fat. We find it very versatile. Have used it as a barbecue, to grill and for cooking stir fries. Also as an oven with the lid on. It really depends what you want to cook as to which is best for you.
we have just ordered another party grill (we had one a few years ago and moved to a huge cadac)as its lots better in our opinion a lot lighter if you need more food cooking cook the food that takes the longest first then place in an insulated dish (as seen on ideal world etc)to keep it warm whilst you cook the rest we made liver and bacon casserole in a wok over the flame and it was great the cadac by the way went a long time ago to bulky and cumbersome for us

Seriously don’t bother with the cadac - I have had 3 over the last 15 years 2 larger ones, one is now in a skip, one returned and now the small safari chef 2 which I have just bought and used for a camping holiday and will be returning because it’s not fit for purpose.
So here are my pro’s and cons in case you were wondering!!
Pros and the reasons I had 3 of these.
1. The larger models offered a great variety of cooking options I bought the paella pan and generally used this and the reversible grill plate and large pan support for everything*
2 the larger models were great for a crowd or a big family I never used our trailer tent cooker or kitchen as a result when they actually worked
3 they packed down well and can be used anywhere which we did all year round
Cons
On a butane (camping gaz) set up they just take FOREVER to cook - * (the reason I was using the grill plate and paella pan) you can use propane and would be interested in hearing whether anyone had the same issues and switched and got a better outcome ? The burners just appeared too small and didn’t have enough grunt !
Skottle, and bbq, were an utter waste of time and were a pain in the rear to clean, the non stick Surfaces on grill plate were easy to damage in storing/packing and not very good quality considering the price however, I am advised these elements now come with a cover which appeared to be missing off our models
1. First set up lasted about 8 years - parts failed and you could no longer get them for that model
2. The second set up was just utter pants and did not perform the same as the original set up despite changing burners and everything it just never got up to the right level of heat to actually cook food e.g 25mins to cook 1 pancake!! Which was inedible, we had this system checked several times.
Safari chef 2 - utter rubbish ,ridiculously expensive, same issues - doesn’t get up to an effective heat, food took forever to cook which is frankly dangerous non stick surfaces damaged in storage already despite careful handling impossible to clean unit/accessories. We ended up buying a £20 camping gas bistro ring because it was so hopeless :(. So I am utterly done with cadac - sorry! I cannot believe anybody from this company has ever cooked on their own products!
To compare I have an original camping gaz party grill approx 15 years old which I guess hipsters may refer to as vintage retro! Which the cadac safari chef 2 was supposed to replace just because it’s old and some twat stood on the blue lid and broke it which makes it a little difficult to store. we use it all the time, for smaller camping trips festivals and days on the beach as it packs up small and will continue to based on our experiences. This little stove runs rings around the cadac stuff - the only reason we switched to cadac is that we needed a bigger unit for family use and nobody else at this time made this set up, well they do now and I am hot footing it off to local camping shop to pick up a camping party grill 600 I will update accordingly when in use! If you are looking for something smaller I hear they do a 400 range which is the equivalent of my smaller vintage retro set up - happy camping
We do like our Cadac Safari 2, Used it every day for 5 weeks and dined very well, from roast meals, stirfrys & bbq. Purchased in February at the Birmingham show. Its the first one we have owned. Time will tell how it will perform long term.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
