hi... After our first trip this season our 2nd airbed has died... so I have ordered 2 campbeds reduced on Amazon Germany by Wildfox...they look pretty good and I can always send them back...so what I would like to know is how is it sleeping on a campbed? I am thinking of putting a self inflating mat on them and putting them side by side.... would this work? Also are they much more comfortable than an airbed?
Still have not told hubby of my intentions..so any words of wisdom would be appreciated..Thanks
Whatever you decide to get, get the best that you can afford.
Apart from any time that you spend inside because of inclemant weather, your sleeping time will be the longest period of time that you spend in the tent/van. So make it thee most comfortable place it can be.
There is nothing better than a good night's sleep.
I loved the camp bed, preferred it to the airbed as it conforms more to your body. That and a decent thickness sleeping bag have given me my best nights sleep in a tent ever. No extra mattress needed.
ok thanks cathyh and wise words from lobey....will wait and see when they arrive what they are like....they are not the over wide ones just mormal width 65 cm I think...so will just have to wait for the post!!!
I have the SunnCamp XL camp bed and have finally found a bed pod that it fits in. So used for my holiday in Stratford last week. I used a bed roll (Ikea) on the bed then my sleeping bag. It was really comfy. So will be using this from now on.
I have two styles of camp bed, and I find both OK. The army camp bed with four sets of sprung legs holding the two sides apart, is a bit un-supportive, but still OK, the other has the fold out cross over legs. The advatages are that it's higher from the ground, and easier to get out of, also there is a lot of useable space under it to store gear. The only down side, as already mentioned, is that because of the extra height, it wont fit in smaller or sloping sided tents. I tend to use the lower spring leg version most of the time, as it's wider, so gives a bit more room to sprawl. I have used a partially inflated air bed under it, to give some extra support, and always have a self inflating mat on top of either version, to stop the cold coming through. I did shorten the side poles on the spring leg version, because they stick out way past the ends of the bed, and tended to poke into the tent fabric. I also fitted rubber caps over the bare ends. ( I love to play with and modify things )

------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
Cheap campbed (bed sprung leg type) plus cheap self-inflating mat - far warmer than an air bed, and no rolling around - firm but cosy. Personally that is the best combination for me sleeping - but as with many of these things, it is down to personal preference.
When i go fishing i use a chub bedchair but i have just found this bedchair for £50 which is cheap for a carp bedchair. Ok a lot more than your standard campnig bed but the difference is a big difference.
At home we use my bedchair as a spare bed if our daughter has friends over for a sleeepover.
Ive slept on it loads without complaint.
Chub have also got a good sleeping bag going cheap here.
Carp sleeping bags have strings so you can attach them to the bed so it doesnt move or fall off if you get out of the bag.The sleeping bags are really warm and extra large unlike most mummy types.
The bedchairs also take some serious weight.
I'm a leetle (ok, quite a bit) heavier than that, and until the DW can get me slimer ( ), need a campbed rated more than 20st+ (actually a bit more, but lets start with that).
Are there any such beasts, or am I on my sleeproll forever more?
Take a look around at carp stuff there are an awful lot of heavy anglers out there. It wouldnt be hard to pimp it up so it takes a bit more weight.Mine uses heavy elastic round the edges ans i could put another length round it if needed to take more weight. As it is ive tightened it up so the bed is firmer.
You also get add on legs for them to stop them tipping over.
The only trouble is they are big folded up and the prices get even bigger.
Or for the ultimate nights sleep look atthis complete sleep system with the bag built into the chair for all seasons.
The price should make most go ouch but i better the tackle tarts have them already
It is more of a space issue really there is no way we would fit any more in our car!!!!but I agree they certainly look really comfy.....also there are xxl campbeds as well if you are looking for something cheaper..
ok the campbeds did arrive and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised...they fold up in a really small bag and open out easily into a study bed...there is no bar at the top and the bottom which makes it more comfortable i think...with a foam mat and an SI mat on top they are great...sturdy no wobbly airbed feel and high up off the ground which is fine for our tent....have set them up next to each other with a double sheet over the top!!!!
My eldest thought it was a new type of table!!!! Will have to see what hubby says but I think so far a big improvement on our airbed situation!!
Well I live in Germany and got them from Amazon.de but they might do them in England....cannot do a link because I am pathetic on the computer....but they are wild fox campbeds...you could have a look see what comes up...
Sorry
Ok have just checked and it just seems to be German thing, however Amazon were doing campbeds including the xl suncamp concertina one that someone recommeded...hope that is helpful...
