Been reading some threads on here about cooking safely in/near a tent and it got me thinking ... We have Campingaz Butane catridges and CV470 gas cartridges. I have learnt that is is wise to remove them after use but how do you store them? I had thought about the car but that can get hot but equally a tent on a sunny day can also get hot, especially if it is all zipped up if we are out for the day. Should they be kept at a certain temperature? If they get too hot is there a danger they could explode? Sorry if these are daft questions but I like to worry about these sort of things! They'll be fine. Just store them next to the stove in the tent.
They're made to withstand direct sunlight, but I wouldn't want to test that. They certainly wouldn't burst if kept in the tent (or in the car for transportation).
Have you ever seen these things being transported in a truck? theyget chucked about something chronic, and if you go to a calor depot there are litterley hundreds of them all over the place and in direct sunlight.
I don't think you will have a problem leaving them either inside or outside a tent it is only when they are in artificialy high temperatures (near a heater) that you may potentialy have a problem.
I store mine the boot of the car or behind the wheel of the car with a towel over them....just make sure you remember to remove them if travelling about with the car. lol. Behind the wheel or under the car has loads of shade and therfore cool....if you are worried.
I was concerned about this, and as I live across the road from the firestation I spoke to them, and was told that even in hot sunlight they are designed to be safe and no need to worry

The auto ignition point, ie the temp you would have to heat the bottle to before the contents caught fire & the bottle exploded is 450degC for Propane & 500degC for butane so no need for wet towels, really.
