HELP!!!!
We have just used our Outwell for 3rd time and found that the interior door was covered in mildew. I am so gutted I could cry. When it was last used, which was 10 months ago, we brought it home and aired it in the garden on a warm windy day for a whole day.
Can anyone give any suggestions of how to treat this, and is this normal? What can we do to stop it happening again?
You can spray it with mould and mildew remover ,Dettox or astonish are both good .dettox in most supermarkets abiut £3, astonish in poundland . but beware that you dont get any on the actual outer tent.
If you can manage to spread it out in the garden so that the door is on the ground , and cover the flysheet up. spray the mildew remover on , leave a few minutes , then rinse repeatedly with a hosepipe, taking care not to get it on the flysheet .leave to dry . This should remove the black spots, but even if the marks dont come out , it will kill the mould and stop it spreading.
possible causes are damp guylines or damp groundsheet, or even a dirty groundsheet, could have picked up mould spores from the ground.
you really do have to be meticulous that every bit of the tent is totally bone dry to prevent mould .
Even after airing it in the garden the underneath of the sig could have been slightly damp, enough to cause mould.
in future, if its at all possible, after drying it leave it unrolled indoors overnight to be absolutely sure its dry.
I remember my sis saying she had put the tent away dry, but when she opened the bag a couple of days later there was a little pool of water in the bottom.
she could only think that it was warm and sunny when she packed it and that it had "sweated" in the bag as it cooled .
Thanks for that Debbie. Have currently got the tent up in the garden so when we have a whole day of dry weather will try your suggestion. I have tried to wipe it down with Milton to stop the spreading but would like to try and see if I can reduce the 'uglyness' of the mildew too.
Think we were a bit naive with the airing of it, and I'm sure the fact that it is a SIG has made the difference.
Have just used our Vango for the 1st time and did exactly as you suggested, left in house overnight. It's just that the outwell is so big but needs must. Will let you know how I get on.
