Thanks frome, that's kind of what I thought. I didn't think they were that cheap, but I am a complete & utter miser when it comes to spending money.
I'm sure I will get some use from it (hopefully including trying it out as a proper double some time ) Maybe I will invest in a SIM if I intend to camp out of season, I like my sleeping quarters on the cool side anyway.
& yes, they are a bit short, but I sleep diagonally in it, which is fine when I'm on my own I suppose.
I'm sure I bought one for my car the other week, from tesco. I'm buggered if I can find it tho, really annoying. Will have to check my receipts, & will buy a couple for the ready bed. Most definitely needed for the car, they weren't very big on dashboard vents in the 70's! It gets hot in there, would hate to have a black one!
Oh I couldn't be doing with all these layers of fleece blankets, mattress toppers, extra blanketsa on top, duvets etc. etc. :-) just to make an airbed warm enough to sleep on.
We all sleep on self inflating mats now. Wife (who is a cold sleepr)has a lovely roomy and snug Outwell Camper Lux. If we are ever camping somewhere reliably warm it might be to warm (though openeing the zip and sleeping part out of it works well, but we have lighter/cooler 'caravan bags around as well we could take). For UK use it's not been a problem for her.
I have a lighter weight 3 season (though as it's 20 yo probably nearer 2 season now) bag, I tend to adjust clothing layers to suit. At may bank I was using a lightweight fleece top over a t shirt with lightweight fleecy trousers and socks
I know what you mean scrumple, I think if my ready bed proves to be of little use I will probably buy a self inflater & decent bag to go with it. I'm set on buying all bedding in double format, as I don't intend to stay single forever (although at times it is very nice, & I'm more than happy with my own company), & I've got used to sleeping on a double bed, that's why I bought a tent big enough to get one in!
I will probably end up going down the SIM route, & saving the ready bed for warmer climates & house guests.
We were away last week too and had two nights of torrential rain and two seriously windy nights but were positively hot with our sleeping set up! It felt like we'd left an electric blanket switched on underneath us. We used;
Cheap reflective mats from Tesco (I removed these after the second night to cool us down).
Fat Airics
The patchwork quilt from our bed at home, doubled over as it's king-sized.
Fitted sheet
King-size 13.5 tog duvet.
I just wear an ordinary nightshirt and OH just wears his smile , so why we so warm, I don't know. The tent is polycotton so we didn't have any condensation problems, which I'm sure helped.
Always try to stay warm during the evening before you go to bed, if you can as getting into bed already cold won't help you warm up quickly. Try putting a covered hot water bottle up your jumper whilst you're sitting around in the evening.
Self inflating mats and a good sleeping bag will keep you warm.The sleeping bag is the thing most seem to scrimp on which i dont understand.
If you get one that is 3/4 season if you get too hot undo the zip a bit.
Much better to be too hot than too cold as its easier to deal with too hot than too cold.
Get a carp fishing sleeping bag and you will have room as well as warmth.
I definitely recommend a fleece liner as £15 well spent. We were camping two weeks ago near Inverness (Rosemarkie, wonderful site) and it was great being warm at night.
Many thanks, we have decided to get a fleece cover from Wilkinsons and a fleece liner and if this doesn't work will then invest in either a 3 or 4 season bag.
