LED would, to use a local term, cut the eyes out of you.....meaning they're a bit too harsh.
I believe the gas ones give the brightest and warmest light. I'd prefer something battery operated myself and so have a variety of battery operated lamps from pound shops and get the batteries from the same shops - B&M bargains have 60 AA batteries for £1.69
When I'm using EHU I have a simple Ikea clip on light with a soft low energy bulb in it and that's the best solution I've come up with, but I don't like being reliant on EHU.
Led, the light output is so much more than any of the other options and without needing any more power either.
Yesterday I was shown a Coleman Lantern with only one Led yet the light output is greater than a Tilley lamp, and what's more there are no mantles to worry about, and no messing with meths or parafin either. It's already gone on to my shopping list for sea fishing this winter.

We have a selection of lights and lanterns - Outwell Tauri light for when on EHU, battery UFOs, rechargable LED inspection type light, Campingaz lumogaz lanterns, oil filled hurricane lamps, wind up torches, battery powered LED lanterns (recently back in Aldi)...........
Obviously don't take all the lights on all the trips but usually take the Tauri, battery lights and a couple of torches. I personally like the hurricane lamps on the table outside in the evenings.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
