Hi All,

I've decided a trailer is necessary to carry all the things i'll (never) use on my camping trips. But I'm concerned about having my trailer nicked while i'm off site. Has anyone any ideas about making it secure while left on site. i realise most sites are secure but not all.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Dennis.

Well, no straight answer ,  never heard of a trailer going from a site, most stolen from gardens. 

Problem is that most camping trailers are light enough to lift,  so any hitch or wheel locks won't stop a theft.  Trailer on the back of or inside a van.  Saying that I bought a hitchlock and use it, but that is more for my peace of mind, it looks like a deterrent 

Now, the jockey wheel and wheel chocks  both cheaper than the hitch    are worth their weight in gold 

I use a hitchlock and I always chain it to a tree or post.

The other good deterrent is to paint the trailer and get vinyl decals with your name or something applied before the laquer coat so they are embedded in the paint.  I usually do something like this to all my trailers.

Means a lot of work for someone to "depersonalise" it and be able to use/sell it safely.

They screw into the ground under the trailer then you padlock the trailer to them.

There are other similar makes, some which are certified I think.

Unfortunatley if someone wants your trailer there is little you can do to stop them.
