If it wasn't for the whistling kettle I would forget what I was doing before I got distracted!
Duck tape, insect repellent, ketchup, pillows, lighter and bin bags
Strange combination but stuff I needed and forgot!
Try test driving locally in a field to work out what you forgot, that way you can pop home if anything vital is missing - like a member of the family or a sleeping bag.........

Haven't bought it yet, but I was looking for an excuse to pop to GoOutdoors, I also only have 4 decent pegs to go with the ones supplied with the tent (which aren't bad, but are still bent wire type). I will go there tomorrow & get some (pegs & tape).
Thanks for the heads-up. .
I was only asking about longer rolls as my dad wanted something to repair the joints on his boats wheel house roof, but that's made from wood & requires quite a lot of duck tape, so tenacious would probably not be suitable.
I've got to be careful with these trips to camping shops though, my budget is dwindling. Thank god I'm off next week!
Yes, so you are, shouldn't you be packing? Oh wait so should I lol.
I've just about sorted the kitchen box out. OH is away all week and I'm hoping to have everything that MUST go in a pile in the hallway. Trouble is is looking a bit full Ooops.
And we have changed our ferry at the last minute, I got an offer from Norfolk lines to sail from Rosyth and it was cheaper than the diesel to drive to Dover in our 3.5 litre estate, so we took that. No refund on original ferry or the Travelodge but we are still quids in and no long journey south to face. It does mean we now leave on Tuesday gulp.
oh just thought maybe I should offer the Travelodge to someone?

That's very kind of you Christine.
All my camping kit is at my parents place in sussex, I've just got to sort out a basic tool kit & put all the new parts on the car (new thermostat, hoses & general service items).
I'm off to sussex this week, so my dad can set the timing on the car (he's the real mechanic) & I will do a food shop when I'm down there.
I've still got no driving license (will just have to report it missing or stolen or something, if I have to) & although I bought my car 7 weeks ago, I still haven't received the reg documents!!!!!
I'm bricking it! But I'm sure I will be fine.
Oh yes, & I still haven't booked my first site, which I should really do as I made the mistake of booking the ferry on Bastille day!
Im also putting together some basic kit for my first camping expeditions - my list of essentials includes: portaloo, water containers, string, tape, small gas stove, kettle, campchair, comfy bed and warm duvet/nice pillow- I can't get comfy in sleeping bags- too restricting; small dishpan and frying pan, coolbox, corkscrew and kitchen utensils- tin opener, sharp kitchen knife, plate, bowl.....oh and a utility tent to store stuff outside my van.
James, please tell us what you have against whistling kettles???
I've had a few, but always gone for the cheap ones, which are more of a whisper than a whistle!
James- have just booked 1st camping expedition(at least thats what it feels like!) for end of July In Scarborough area. Not prepared to say where now for fear of kettle sabotage!!
OK Sue.
I'll prowl around the Scarborough area armed with a parabolic reflector, fitted with a sensitive microphone and amplifier, and my compass. LOL
at nutgone.
I don't have a problem with whistling kettles per se.
But, we do find some folk let them whistle for rather tooooooooo long. And laugh/joke when disapproving looks are returned in their direction. (We're not the only ones).
This is similar to the Mobile Phone users, who set their ringtone volume to loud, and take a while to answer it.
It seems to be on the increase, a form of Anti-Social Behaviour.
I'm not suggesting members here fall into that category.
Has anyone else been disturbed by this sort of thing?
Kind regards James

This is a personal viewpoint, and not intended to cause offense.
------------- In the beginning there was darkness.
Then I bought a tent.
I'm not destitute, I'm just poor.
I can totally understand that viewpoint James, one of my biggest bug-bears is noise, having spent much of my life living in shared houses I have allowed myself to be driven to distraction by other peoples noise!
I find your method of having a bit of a laugh about it is probably best, yes it is annoying, but don't let the behaviour of others ruin your day, a lesson I have had to learn, as I was having many a ruined day at other peoples expense.
I'm not against people making noise altogether, there's just a time & place for it.
& I've had a few whistling kettles in my time, & I always seem to pick one with an ill fitting lid! So mine never seem to whistle, more of an asthmatic whisper so you'd be fine if you got stuck next to me.
