Hi Cruising, thanks for the info but I really wanted a regulated 12V lead as I understand that LCD's can easily be damaged by an increased voltage supply over the 12V over time.

I'm glad you got one in the end, there's no sense in taking risks with these things, they're not the cheapest bit of kit.

It may well have been fine, as others have suggested, but I would've looked for the right part as well, especially as that's what the manufacturer stated.

oh, & tigang, my field is more domestic commercial & industrial installations, not so much the small stuff (although I did used to build circuits when I was young).

How would a laptop power supply, from a car ciggarette lighter, produce the claimed, highly regulated 19v to run my netbook?
Fortunately my inverter charges it fine & it's got a 7hr battery, I just wanted to know how they did it. I suppose it's about the size of a packet of fags or a big box of matches, but claims to give 19v from a car supply???

Hi nutgone

Maplins do one that does what you are saying too:

As you know I dont have a great deal of knowledge about electrics but the spec details may give some clues ?

Ok, for anyone else looking for one of these, save running a power hungry inverter:

http://www.mrlcd.co.uk/epages/es106624.sf?ObjectPath=/Shops/es106624_shop/Products/%22DC%20CABLE%22

Could you say whether this worked?   I can't find the Link but have found what appears to be the same thing on MrLCD.

We are looking for a lead that will plug into the 12v hole on the back of a Grundig twin Tuner Satellite Reciever and then the other end will plug straight into the 12v socket in the motorhome. The one we have seen on MrLCD is £19.99.   Maplins say we need a 12v 5amp lead but can't supply one and Grundigs haven't bothered to put it in with the receiver  that is meant to run direct on 12v.   They have included a mains adaptor.
