Wonder if anyone can help. We are off to the peak district soon. The only pitch we could get was a hardstanding gravel pitch, which the campsite says will be fine for a tent and lots of other campers use them. We have a footprint as well as the ground sheet. Has anyone else camped on handstanding like this before, is it ok?
Done it once and wouldn't do it again. We didn't use our footprint but used a thick tarpaulin instead. Having done that it still managed to mark the sig and was extremely hard underfoot even with our carpet down. Just my opinion! Sorry!
Get some of this rubbery carpet to put on the gravel before pitching your tent upon it. We've pitched ours on sharp gravel for three weeks on end before and were able to walk barefooted in the tent without problem. No marks on the sig either and the carpet was strong and flexible enough not to be pierced by the gravel. We re-used it time and time after that. Not the cheapest of stuff but worth every penny!
