Has anybody got any experience of these satellite kits. We cannot decide between 2 different models for which there is £50 difference in cost. What are the main things to consider when buying. Any advice would be very welcome.
We have a Comag satellite receiver which works well and is quite compact. Sorry can't help with the difference however have you looked at Satgear website as they sell several models.
If you can get hold of a Sky-Mini Box that would be a better solution, if only for the more user friendly EPG, the Min-Box also runs of 12v if needed, as for the Comag we have a rather old SL/12 model, also 12v, but just keep that for backup should a problem develop with the Sky box, the Comag will arguably be better for week signal areas, but the EPG is not as simple as the Sky box, and you get little if no program info in the listings, if you must go for the Comag, then opt for the 12v model, at least then if the power supply packs in, you can just simply buy another mains/12v adapter, for the mains only Comag you would need to have the receiver repaired, I noticed that B&Q at Trafford had a full satellite systems for sale at £40 c/w 65cm Dish the brand was Ross, quite a bargain I thought.
Thanks for your advice guys. Felt quite rushed into this because we are off to Wales this weekend for a week and so needed to act pretty quickly. The 2 comag kits we were looking at were on the Maplins website, both b grade (but still with 12 months guarantee). One was down from £79.00 to £69.00 and the other was down from £129.99 to £69.99. I checked up on satgear (thanks David) but as Maplins don't give model numbers it was difficult to do a comparison and I thought if I rang Maplins and asked their advice, would they give me the right advice, or steer me towards whichever model they had more of or which were poor sellers.
Anyway, went for the latter, comag seems to be an ok brand so will have to see. thanks again,
Hi Denise
Comag is a great brand, we are very happy with the products. The Maplin kits should be fine, they are refurbished and not Easyfind, but are guaranteed so you can be sure that they will function. The main difference is that the Satgear kits are the Easyfind versions, making setup much easier and we provide full phone support. If you have questions just give us a call and we will be happy to advise.
Good luck.
