does anyone know where I can find a reasonably priced (and by that I mean cheap lol) melamine dinner set for camping ?
I have seen a few but they really are overpriced for what they are.
I am currently using a plastic picnic set that we bought from halfords - which has been great but my daughter has lost half of it by playing tea party!!
Thanks

Tbh, you really CANNOT beat the bargains in Melamine plates, bowls etc. than the lowly.....POUNDSHOP unless it's in the 99p storeYou get something like 3 or 4, (sorry never really counted them as I don't actually need replacements but do ogle the various pretty designs I see in the shops), plates/bowls/beakers in each pack so if you perhaps just wanted enough for a family of 4, it would cost you less than a fiver!
Howsomever, I have also seen, (and been sorely tempted), humungous sets on ebay and was recently EVERSO tempted to buy a set of no less than 80 pieces which included a few serving dishes with lids, (just as we have in our current set that we inherited along with our first ever secondhand tin tent), and condiment set and that was under £30!!! Mind you, buying a set of 80 would have been daft as we only have a five berth tin tent so wouldn't need half of the stuff
thankyou...I never thought of the pound shop to be honest I shall have a looksy next time im in there....I also live on ebay but have found the postage to be quite high on them..still lookin tho. only need enough for 3 of us really
thanks again xx
Our poundland and 99p shop have some really pretty sets. they have matching salad bowls , serving trays, long narrow sandwich trays, chip and dip trays and plastic tablecloths and serviettes too.
For £1 or 99p each you get packs of
3 large plates
4 small plates
4 cereal bowls
3 larger oval bowls
5 beakers
Large salad / fruit bowls or trays £1 each.
also 3 section trays , our kids love these, sandwiches in one , crisps in another and cake or fruit in the 3rd .
We just picked up 4 bowls, 4 plates and 4 mugs in Asda. £5 per 4-pack, or three for a tenner. Solid looking stuff too, none of that transparent rubbish that warps after a hot wash.
This is the design on the plate, the bowls and mugs match.

These are nice. The ones in Pondland were a bit pinky, good price though.

Catterick Caravans maybe?
We were in there on Saturday (just for a look, you understand!) and they had some large displays of 16 piece sets in various different designs for £9.99.
I keep looking out for a nice set to replace my old one (donated, virtually unused, by a family member) but its about 12 years old and the melamine seems much thicker than alot of the newer ones, so Im loathe to part with it. They did have some very pretty designs though.
Go Outdoors had a set for £9.99, 4 plates, 4 side plates, 4 bowls and 4 cups. white with blue check design round the edges.
Mine was an assortment of sets that we have lost bits of and added to with mismatched pieces, but bought the one in Gooutdoors then my hubby reversed over it after one trip away, Luckily I saw the funny side, and Go still had them at cheaper price, They probably still do.
Have to say that I've never noticed any particularly 'pinky' ones in any of the Poundshops or 99p stores tbh. In fact this is why it's sooooo hard for me to resist them when in fact, I really DON'T need new ones.......
In fact there was one particular design that I loved because it's almost identical to a china design I've seen and I'm pretty sure lots of you will know when I say it's the one on a cream background with green and black olive design on it. In fact, it's virtually a perfect match for my china olive oil bottle that I use at home! Just need to shop around in allllllll the Poundshops etc. as they don't all have the same designs and I've even seen a very smart black and white one too. But at only £9.99 for a complete set for four people, that others have mentioned on here still sounds a great bargin to me too. Ohhhh it's just sooooo tempting to get new ones.......but I MUSTN'T.................although ONE of my side plates does have some tiny bubbly bits on the underside of it where it got too close to the hob once........
We got ours from catterick caravans after searching around all sorts of places and found that theirs was the best selection of patterns etc and cheaper than anyone else we checked out. Ordered over the net and landed here within a couple of days
