Personally never, ever can I see us with a TV. We go camping ot get away from everything. We Sky+ what we miss!
My only gripe is thought, it is annoying when people have their TVs on loudly with their caravan doors open.
But apart from that each to their own as we all go away for different reasons.

I love escaping from the tv, the pc, the wii, the ds.... it's so good. I personally do miss contact with friends on the pc but it's never for long, and it gives me a chance to talk about new stuff when I get back online.
I took my guitar camping recently and I loved it, but I feel a bit self conscious doing it again. I'm tempted though for the UKCS meet later this week.
I can't understand the need to take a tv but appreciate how much harder it is to keep children entertained from time to time otherwise. Camping is not very relaxing with the kids in tow!!

2011 So far...
April - 2 nights in Easter Hols in Haven, Burnham (down the road).
Taking my sister and family for a trial camp locally 20th May
GLASTONBURY!! And *no* kids this year!! (Working: secure camping too!)
Chy Carne July/Aug 2011...
I can't understand the need to take a tv away either. Finding things to do with our children when the weather turns bad only increases our bonds. It's good to jump in puddles! lol
Each to their own though, I don't mind others taking a tv as long as it's not on loud till 3 in the morning - else their EHU gets turned off!
OK no kids no excuse like watching the occasional TV programme i dont need to be understood dont need to bond dont want to go pond dipping, can't play the Guitar the sitar the trumpet or anything else for that matter but i cannot and will not understand why anybody would want to miss......TOP GEAR!

I have camped with my boys in wonderful weather and I have camped when there was so much rain for so long that we had a moat round the tent; but never once have they even expressed a regret that we dont have EHU or a TV; and believe you me - getting them off the one-eyed monster at home is bloody hard work.
I wouldn't take a TV but then again I wouldn't have anything to plug it into. Also the car is full enough, and I don't have a small TV to take. Also I am not keen on the idea.
The kids can draw, read, sleep, play, colour, chat or sing and dance. They see enough TV at home.
Each to their own I guess but not for us. That said if the footie was on..........
We do take a tv and we do have a satellite dish. My husband is very much a gadget man whilst I am happy to read he is not. We only have the tv on if back to the tent early and when the kids have gone to bed they are not aware we have a tv in the tent!
Before kids we were very basic campers never had a ehu tiny tent that was sleeping room only. We only came back to camping in 2008 after a 6 year break and it is unbelievable what you can buy now although completely converted to sig and carpets!
(Sandra peeps round the door) we have a 19 inch flat screen tv with built in dvd and a satellite dish - we promise to keep the volume down but we are a self confessed family of film addicts with the occasional Corrie episode thrown in (we do read occasionally too - surprising how educational a tv mag can be ) however we do not drink copious amounts of alcohol nor make lots of drunken noise late into the night (not often anyway ) I think we all have our vices and we should not judge but we should celebrate, embrace and share (except the remote control of course ) our diversity. (Sandra leaves promptly)
Shh Sandra, sacrilidge, you will be burnt at the stake for witchcraft and hung by the neck until you cut off the plug! OH NO i now have 777 posts the mark of the TV beast i'm doomed

I have two children (7&9) and we always take a laptop to watch a DVD when they go to bed. They don't watch much TV at home, and they certainly don't miss it when we are camping, but then again some of you may think that watching a DVD is too much! We camp often and for long stints, and one of the things that my two love about camping are the things they can get away with that they can't do at home. Things like eating those sugery breakfast cereals that come in small multipacks, wrestling in the bedroom pods, coming and going as they please...and yes! laying snugg in their beds at night watching a DVD and sipping hot chocolate. They have never seen a full movie yet, as they always turn over and fall straight to sleep about half an hour in - they are usually exhausted from the day spent outside doing whatever in the fresh air! But for me it's a great way to wind them down, and I always get great pleasure from sitting for a while just watching them sleep so soundly with the trace of a contented smile on their little faces. You can't tell me there is anything wrong with this!

PS: Last camp we had to take a small LCD TV/DVD combi as my laptop screen was acting up, and my DH won't let the kids near his. I must say it worked out better as it was less faffing and the picture was obviously better, does this make it more of a crime . And as a side note we never have it on loud or late, in fact I always do a recci around the outside of the tent to make sure it isn't disturbing anyone.
Well like the OP said he now understand both sides of the argument for and against TV - its just a shame he couldn't balance this argument in his own head before posting such an inflammatory post!!!
For the record I kind of sit on the fence - sometimes we do sometimes we don't it depends on the weather, type of site and what we have planned. I don't understand families who shut themselves away watching TV in one case a family behind us it was the parents who were sat inside all day watching the box whilst their tiny kids ran amok but if they think its worth buying a tent to do that then thats their business.
If people wish to take a TV camping then that is their choice, if they do not that is their choice. It is simple and everyone likes to holiday in different ways and I cannot see why people cannot respect others decisions as to how to spend their own time on their holidays.
