Thanks for putting the photos on, it has swayed me and I am going to order one! I think it looks like it will take all of my clobber! Looks sturdy.
Sorry about your son 'error'! At least I said adorable and not pretty! He is gorgeous and will break some hearts I'm sure when he's older! Made me laugh as my son also had longer hair when he was a toddler - it was white blond and I couldn't bring myself to cut it very often. Several people called him a beautiful little girl when I was on holiday!
I think the ultra light reeded bed you mentioned, are just a plastic bag with sections formed in, that sausage balloons slip into and then inflate individually. If they puncture, they just put another balloon in that section. No thermal value, so you would stiil want some other form of insulation. Very small though, when not inflated.

I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
So, I went to have a look at mats in the local camping shop. I was surprised by the size and weight of the Vango mats, but found a small pack size Highlander classic. It's only 160cm long, so classed as a short mat, just right for me. The label/tag gave the dimensions as -160cm/51cm/5cm. I took this to mean they were 5cm thick, and after checking with the shop assistant, bought 2.
Once inflated, it seems to be only 2.5cm thick . It was too late to take them back, so we had to sleep on them. My little one slept better than he does at home, every night for a week!!! I didn't fare quite so well, and do need something a little thicker, although I got used to it the more I slept on it. Maybe I need a thick roll mat underneath or something. Or still keep looking for a 5cm mat that packs small.
Other than the misleading label, I am happy with the mats, they are warm and they are really small once rolled up
I decided against getting new mats due to the cost and am using my cheap and cheerful Aldi ones for the third year. They take up so much room though - I have just packed them into a holdall along with poles and sleeping bags and it's so tight that I'm sure when I open the bag on the campsite, there will be an explosion of gear!
Also decided not to get the trolley, as again, it will eat in to my scampi and chips, and ice-cream fund! Guess what I am getting for my fourtieth birthday later this year though?!!!
I'm off for two weeks tomorrow so will be in touch with yourself and Eldarado on my return!
By the way, I see you've ordered us some decent weather down there for next week - fingers crossed!
Have a lovely time, hope our southern weather does behave itself for you. We spent the last week at our fave spot in Tintagel, it rained and blew mighty winds, and we liked it. Hoorah
Weather looks dry at least, although the wind is picking up for the boat on Saturday - hopefully just a little lumpy and it's a northerly which is better than a south westerly going over!
We went to Tintagel when I was about four and my abiding memory is of trotting up and down lots of steps!!!
I actually don't mind the wind and rain either, once I'm there - but am praying to the wind gods and asking them to go easy on us between 10.30-1.10pm on Saturday!
The steps would probably have been going down to the little beach cove, near the ruined castle and where Merlin's Cave is. They have been tastefully improved in recent years, not as slippery as they once were.
We both feel a bit homesick for our favourite campsite,
If the label said it was 5cm thick, then that's what it should have been. If not take it back for a refund. I know this has been mentioned before loads of times, but now you're home, leave it layed out flat with the valve open, and see if it gets any thicker. There's alot of difference between 2.5 and 5 cm thick. (actually 100 %) That's how they should be stored any way.

I did wonder if I was doing something wrong, being new to SI mats. I had a look online when I got back to see what dimensions other shops were putting on their websites. They said 24mm thick.
I will go and have a word with the shop I got them from. They obviously don't know. Maybe I could swap for a bigger Vango even though it's been used...
I didn't know that they should be stored flat with the valve open. I don't have the space to do that unfortunately.
